2022, by far, seems to be the ‘it’ year for celebrity weddings. Since January 2022, we’ve got to witness some of our favourite stars tie the knot with the love of their life in #Instagramworthy ceremonies, giving us #weddinggoals like no other! From Mouni Roy-Suraj Nambiar to Shibani Dandekar-Farhan Akhtar, and Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor, several celebrity couples became Mr and Mrs this year, and the latest one joining the bandwagon is Kollywood superstar Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan.
Nayanthara and Shivan got married on June 9, 2022, in a close-knit but star-studded ceremony that took place in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. In attendance at their wedding were the who’s who of the Indian film industry including Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Karthi, and director Atlee, who is directing Nayanthara and Shah Rukh’s upcoming film Jawan.
They tied the knot early in the day and Naanum director took to Instagram in the afternoon to share a series of photos from the ceremony. “On a scale of 10 … She’s Nayan & am the one ☝️ By God’s Grace :) jus married #Nayanthara (sic),” read one of his captions, and “Am married [emojis] Jus the Beginning of a bigger , stronger , crazy love story wit you my #Thangamey ! Love you #Thangamey #Kanmani Kadambari and now my wife ! (sic)” read the other.
The lovebirds looked breathtaking in their wedding attire. The celebrity bride made her wedding day even more memorable by donning a traditional yet contemporary attire. She wore a custom-made vermillion red saree designed by Monica Shah of Jade by Monica and Karishma. The embroidery on the saree, according to the brand, was inspired by the carvings on the temples of Hoysala.
Nayanthara finished off her look with a dramatic, floor-sweeping veil in the same shade as the saree. Styled by celebrity stylist Shaleena Nathani, Nayanthara’s wedding look was accessorised with an ornate choker, a satlada, and another statement necklace that complemented her red saree perfectly well. A pair of oversized studs and sets of bangles were also a part of this.
The sleeves of Nayanthara’s blouse featured motifs of goddess Lakshmi as bajubandh. The designer house also revealed in their Instagram post: “the fourth vow running across the ensemble has been personalized with the couple’s names, symbolizing togetherness, commitment, and mutual respect.
Vignesh’s wedding attire was simple and traditional. He donned a kurta, veshti and complemented it with a shawl handcrafted with ek-taar (single string) embroidery. Each of these ensembles was handcrafted by the craftsmen at Jade Atelier.
Nayanthara and Vignesh have been dating since 2015 approximately. The couple met on the sets of Naanum in the same year. The Kollywood star was the lead in the 2015 film and Vignesh was its director. Back in 2019, Nayanthara had made it official and shared the news of their engagement by calling Vignesh her ‘fiance’.
On the work front, Nayanthara was last seen in Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal opposite Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film was done by her husband Vignesh.
