Badam Barfi Recipe: Make Delicious Almond Barfi At Home

Badam ki barfi is a traditional Indian sweet dish. Mainly prepared during festivals and celebratory occasions, badam barfis are decadent, smooth, rich and irresistibly delicious. Prepared from soaked and grounded almond paste, along with ghee and sugar, with a beautiful aroma that arises from the cardamoms or rose water, almond barfi is an absolute delicacy. Although almond barfis are often store-bought, homemade badam barfis however have a personalised touch to them, making them even more special. It is absolutely no hassle to whip up a few batches of badam barfi with this easy and quick badam barfi recipe. Whether there is an occasion that you are about to celebrate or a unique gift that you want to give, almond barfis are loved by everyone.

  1. 100 grams of blanched almond flour
  2. 2 tsp ghee
  3. ½ cup sugar
  4. ¼ to ½ tsp cardamom powder
  5. 1 tbsp pistachios

  1. Add half of the ghee to a pan with a heavy bottom.
  2. Add in the water and sugar thereafter, and let the ingredients dissolve on a medium flame. 
  3. Turn the flame from medium to low, and then add the almond flour.
  4. Mix well along with the other ingredients in the pan, and incorporate everything well. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture.
  5. Increase the heat back to medium constantly stir, and cook until the mixture thickens. Continue the process for about 7 minutes.
  6. Add the rest of the ghee to the mixture and continue to cook. Cook for another 2 minutes until the mixture begins to separate from the side of the pan, and turns thick enough to come together into a mass. 
  7. Turn off the heat, and add cardamom powder and stir.
  8. The mixture should look moist and smooth at this stage. 
  9. Lightly grease the ghee on two parchment papers, then add the hot mixture to the parchment paper and knead it several times, for about 2 minutes until the mixture becomes smooth. 
  10. Once the mixture is smooth. Cover with another parchment paper, and roll the mixture into a thin sheet with a thickness of about ⅛ to ¼ inches. 
  11. Sprinkle the pistachios and roll for another time. 
  12. Let the mixture cool down and cut the mixture into squares or diamond shapes with a greased knife. 
  13. Cool down the mixture completely before serving.

Pro tip: You can add a few drops of rose water or kewra to the badam barfi recipe for an enhanced fragrance.
