There is no dearth of gold lovers in India, and our craze for the glitzy metal especially comes alive on occasions like Diwali. Mostly in the jewellery shopping but once in a while on our taste buds too. For past few years, many sweet makers around the country have been making news for their Diwali offerings being some of the most expensive sweets in India but this year Bhopal’s Gaagar Sweets took it up a notch with their ‘Gold Label’.

As the name tells you, the costliest sweet in India this year, Gold Label is quite literally labelled in gold. Covered entirely in 24k gold vark, this most expensive mithai in India costs a whopping Rs 24,000 per kg. Though, to be fair, what makes it the costliest sweet in India is not just the gold foil covering but also the main ingredient which happens to be Pishori pistachios.

A pistachio is a pistachio at the end of the day, you might think but that’s not the case with Pishori pistachios. This smaller, slightly sweeter sibling of the regular pistachios was sourced by the Bhopal sweetmaker from Pishin district in Pakistan, and is renowned for not only its nutritional qualities but also the stellar taste. While the regular pistachios are more on the olive side and have a nuttier taste, Pishori pistachio is slightly more vibrant green, sweeter, and perfect for sweets. In fact, if you’ve ever tried making baklava at home and been upset because it didn’t look as pretty or didn’t taste the same as what it did on your Turkey trip, your answer is Pishori pistachios. The use of this star ingredient only validates Gaagar Sweets’ Gold Label taking the top spot as the costliest sweet in India.

While Gaagar Sweets might’ve taken the top spot when it comes to the costliest sweet in India by weight as their Gold Label costs Rs 24,000 per kg, the reigning most expensive mithai in India by pieces remains Chappan Bhog’s Exotica. This Lucknow-based sweets shop has been making this much-praised sweet for some years now, and they offer different packs starting at 4 pieces and going up to 100 pieces.
The pieces are priced at Rs 560 each, making the starting price with a 4 piece box Rs 2,240, and goes all the way up to Rs 56,000 for a 100 piece box.

This sweet, which has been a regular in the top 10 most expensive sweet in India, has the finest of ingredients sourced from around the world. Chappan Bog states that they get their pine nuts from Kinnaur, Mamra almonds from Iran, pistachios From Afghanistan, macadamia nuts from South Africa, hazelnuts From Turkey, and saffron From Kashmir, and then the decadent sweet that gets made from these amazing ingredients gets wrapped in a sheet of real gold foil, resulting in what is one of the top most expensive sweets in India.

While both the aforementioned sweetmakers made it to the news for their most expensive sweets in the country, they aren’t very practical options for gifting. Diwali is all about warmth, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying homemade delicacies but it is also the financial new year for a big section of the society. The reason why Diwali gift hampers are important elements in the festival also because they make for perfect items to express gratitude for the work relationships you’ve shared with your vendors, colleagues, clientele, and more.
If you have been on the lookout for luxury Diwali gift hampers to send across this year, Arq Mithai is a great option you can explore. One of the regulars on the list of the most expensive sweets, Arq also lets you customise the boxes for a larger quantity, and for smaller orders, you can always pick from their extensive Diwali gift hampers section.
From classics like dhodha and balushahi to experiments like gulabaroon and besan truffle, the choice of sweets that Arq offers is mindblowing.
And in case, you want something fun and fresh, which is not necessarily the most expensive mithai in India to gift your loved ones, check out this list of Diwali gift hampers we love for 2024.
