Miles and miles of clean beaches, sunny skies and views of the ocean – Goa is a haven for those looking for a good time. And with good times, comes good food! The land of the beaches has seen many new restaurants open this year, offering a variety of cuisines inspired by local Goan dishes as well as from international shores. Here’s presenting some of the most interesting ones. How many have you tried from this list?

At the newly-opened Hosa in Siolim, art is scattered all across the six rooms of the restored Portuguese villa and tall palm trees look over as you explore the culinary diversity of South Indian cuisine. Brand Chef Suresh DC has created an approachable and contemporary menu with dishes such as Gunpowder Kid Corn, Coconut Shrimp and Curry Leaf Cured Snapper among others. Set near Chapora River, a magnificent view of the St Anthony’s Church adds to the overall experience.

From the makers of Beleza by the Beach comes yet another stunning offering, this time serving modern Indian cuisine at South Goa’s Juju. Under Chef Avinash Martin’s guidance, the menu is a celebration of the different regions of India with dishes such as Tandoori Wasabi Malai Broccoli, Duck Khurchan Bhondas and Slow Braised Lamb Shanks with Berry Pulao among others. Award-winning Russian mixologist Evgenya Prazdnik has created cocktails that feature native Indian ingredients.

The modern European and pan-Asian restaurant serves dishes that are inspired by travel. From the Tortellini inspired by a café in Sicily to Paella flavours from the coast of Valencia, the menu at Mystras offers European cuisine that celebrates local produce. Expect to find Napoli pizzas, Spanish tapas, seafood linguini and a plethora of memorable drinks to elevate the dining experience.  

If you’re looking for a great brunch place in Goa, look no further than Fig & Maple. From the regal cuisine of Rajasthan to the flavours of Bengal, Fig & Maple Goa plays on classic Indian flavours. Where else would you find Khandvi Ravioli or Paniyaram Pancakes on the menu? The artisanal cocktails add to the experience as you admire the beautiful Portuguese architecture.

Chennai’s Koox comes to Goa with a luxurious setting and easy-going vibe. Three different levels beckon you for varied experiences. Kasa, on the highest level, is the perfect terrace bar to enjoy a couple of sundowners amidst the trees before you head to Koox for some delicious Robata-Yaki grills. The Other Side of Kasa is a members-only speakeasy bar which requires an access code to enter for some artisanal and handcrafted cocktails.

An authentic Japanese dining experience, Izumi is located inside the plush boutique guesthouse Botanique. From sushi rolls to ramen bowls, yakitori, donburi and everything in between, Izumi also has a special bar programme that has been designed keeping the food in mind. Don’t forget to try the slightly crunchy Hirame Sashimi or their cherry blossom cocktail Sakuraba or just enjoy a glass of sake. The indoor-outdoor seating offers varied dining options.

If boho vibes and beachy views are your reason to be in Goa, then don’t look further than Tereza Beach House. The beautiful beach shack near Reis Magos Fort overlooks the ocean and specialises in European cuisine. Unwind with delicious pizzas and sundowners as DJs and musicians get the buzz going with some fun beats.

Housed inside the boutique resort The Hammock, Elaa is a vegan-friendly restaurant by Sandeep Sreedharan that champions local and seasonal produce. Inspired by Goan cuisine, there are also some beautiful seafood dishes on the menu. Homegrown gin is the focus at the bar. Grab a table and order a bowl of their delicious Foxtail Millet Laksa or the Prawn Rissois and you will not be disappointed.

One of the busiest and buzziest restaurants in Goa, with interiors designed by Sussanne Khan, Vedro offers a taste of Indian cuisine with Japanese and French techniques in the heart of Latin quarters. A tropical paradise awaits you inside with cosy sunlit corners and aesthetically-pleasing seating. Try their take on Bhutta - corn served three ways or the Wild Mushrooms or sip on cocktails from their well-stocked bar at the two-storied restaurant.

Launched in April this year, Chef Gracian De Souza’s The Village Bistro features a bar and live grill in the downstairs section and a dedicated wine bar on the upper level with a stunning view of the fields in front. Hearty European fare is what you get at this casual and relaxed space. If you happen to drop in on some select Wednesdays, expect wine-tasting sessions, traditional Portuguese Fado music and Mando Goan music to get you into the festive mood.

With stunning views of the beautiful Miramar Beach as far as the eye can see from its location on the 11th floor of the Crescent Hotel, Raki is a welcome addition to Goa’s growing F&B scene. The 55-seater resto bar serves dishes that are a modern twist to Mediterranean cuisine along with a wide variety of cocktails.

The casual Italian dining restaurant opened its doors at the Novotel Goa Resort and Spa recently. With a hint of Italy and a twist of Goa, Chef Alex Dias serves wholesome classic-style recipes at the open-air restaurant. Dishes such as Pizza de Funghi and Cafreal Chicken Pizza are a must as is the refreshing Italian Summer Mocktail, the perfect drink for sunny days. If you like to experiment, the kokum panna cotta should be on your must-have list.

The Goan Portuguese restaurant has a menu that is bursting with character and flavour. Locally-sourced ingredients find their way into dishes with African, European and Indian influences. Get your artfully curated cocktails and local spirits from the bar and enjoy the many jazz nights that are a must-watch when you are in Goa.

A reimagined idea of the Anjuna shack, Slow Tide’s interiors have been designed by award-winning architect Palinda Kannangara from Sri Lanka. Mangalore, Colombo and the East Coast serve as influences on the menu, with many time-honoured favourites from Goa and across the seas. A local South Anjuna vaddo bar and another interactive infusion bar are where you head for some eclectic drinks.

A beautiful 300-year-old home that has now been converted into a café, Café Meu Lar serves warm cosy vibes along with its European cuisine that is inspired by Goan food. Comfort meets classic with the café’s offerings of freshly-brewed coffee, pies, pastas, poi sandwiches, burgers and desserts.
