South Goa is ideal for tourists who want to learn about the city's heritage and culture. The district also contains some of the oldest architectural monuments from the Portuguese rule. It is well-known for its charming and magnificent architecture, calm beaches, and diverse flora and fauna. There is so much to do in Goa, but if you are on a budget or have limited time—then here are seven activities that will help you get the most out of your visit to South Goa.
1. Explore the heritage architecture and art of South Goa
If you are interested in palatial architectural wonders, then this activity should be on your list of 'activities in South Goa.' The Portuguese style of architecture is heavily influenced by Goan heritage monuments. South Goa is steeped in rich Portuguese culture. As a result, to witness the architectural marvel, you should visit palaces such as Palácio do Deão, Figueiredo, and Salvador Costa houses, among others.
The Palácio do Deão is a well-known tourist attraction in South Goa. The palace was built in 1780 by a Portuguese nobleman and is known for its expansive gardens and stunning architecture. The location also has a library that is open to the public and contains some rare books.
The Figueiredo and Salvador Costa houses in Loutolim, as well as the Menezes Braganza and Fernandes mansions in Chandor, are examples of Portuguese architecture. These heritage mansions feature balconies, gardens, and ornamental windows in the style of old-Portuguese architecture. Goa Chitra in Benaulim is also worth a visit. 2. Take a walk in the bylanes of South Goa
An evening stroll through the lanes of Margao or Colva will fill your soul with joy. Margo and Colva are small villages in South Goa's heartland. So, if you're in South Goa with your friends, you should definitely go for a walk through these villages.
You can also rent a bike or a car and take a long drive along the breathtakingly beautiful coastal road that runs from River Sal to Agonda. After that, you can have a picnic at Quepem Dam. It is an excellent place to unwind.
3. Hot air balloon ride
South Goa has diverse flora and fauna that should not be overlooked. A hot-air balloon ride is the best way to enjoy it. The thrilling ride will take you soaring above the lush green hills and beaches, providing a panoramic view.
4. See rare plants
Canacona Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a plethora of rare plants. On a beautiful morning, visit the sanctuary and take in the local flora. Between October and March is the best time to visit. Surprisingly, the sanctuary also offers camping facilities.
5. Jungle safari
A jungle safari ride in Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary should be on your bucket list if you enjoy adventure. The sanctuary is home to a wide range of animals, including deer, tigers, hyenas, and over 120 bird species. A jeep safari will allow you to see leopards, hyenas, and other animals. Before going on a jungle safari, remember that you need permission from the forest office.
6. Water sports by the beach
Palolem beach in South Goa offers some adrenaline-pumping water sports. South Goa also has a variety of unique water sports activities such as jet-skiing, paragliding, and scuba diving. Goa Diving and Bogmalo Beach offer professional scuba diving courses, so check them out.
7. Silent party
South Goa, unlike North Goa, does not host neon night parties. Instead, it is home to some of the best silent parties. You can participate in these silent parties and have a one-of-a-kind experience, especially at Palolem Beach.
