Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty recently got promoted to the role of a father-in-law as his daughter Athiya Shetty tied the knot with Indian cricketer KL Rahul on January 23, 2022. The wedding took place at Suniel's Khandala bungalow named Jahan, and the elated actor stepped out after the ceremony with his son Ahan Shetty to share the news with the media.

Athiya and KL Rahul, after dating for almost six years, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the former's Khandala home, which was beautifully decorated for the festivities, and in attendance at the wedding were the couple's family and close friends including Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Krishna Shroff. The celebrity couple and their families remained tight-lipped about the wedding updates until it was over; they had a no-phone policy at the wedding venue as well.
Before the wedding ceremony, the couple's families also hosted a sangeet night, which was attended by Akansha, Krishna, Arjun Kapoor, and Anshula Kapoor, among other popular faces.
'Singham' star Ajay Devgn was one of the first people to congratulate the newlyweds on social media. "Congratulations to my dear friends @SunielVShetty & #ManaShetty for their daughter @theathiyashetty ’s marriage to @klrahul . Here’s wishing the young couple a blissful married life. And, Anna, here’s a special shout-out to you on this auspicious occasion," read the actor's tweet.
Bridal attire details
Putting all speculations to rest - from what the bride and groom wore to what the makeup look looked like - Athiya and KL Rahul stepped out to pose for the paparazzi post the wedding ceremony.
For their special day, the couple chose outfits by ace designer Anamika Khanna and were styled by celebrity stylist Ami Patel. The bride donned a champagne pink Chikankari lehenga-choli set in silk with zardozi and jaali work. Athiya's veil and dupatta, however, were silk organza. In an exclusive interview with Vogue, the designer revealed that it took her team approximately 10,000 hours to make.
Ami accessorised Athiya's look with beige jutti heels with golden embroidery by Fizzy Goblet, a heavy stone-studded choker with matching earrings, a maang tikka, and a pair of dainty kaleerey. The celebrity bride's makeup look was kept minimal.
Meanwhile, the groom looked dapper in an ivory sherwani, also by Anamika, that complemented his bride's outfit well. The sherwani was heavily embroidered using a similar shade of thread, and it was paired with a pair of straight-fit white pants and an embroidered dupatta. His wedding look was accessorised with a layered emerald neckpiece and a pair of beige mojaris with an extended curled toe.
Post the wedding, Athiya took to Instagram to share some fun moments from their sangeet and mehendi ceremonies, and they were heartwarming, to say the least.
The actor looked ethereal at her mehendi ceremony, dressed in a sunshine gold Chikankari lehenga by celebrated couturier Anjul Bhandari. It was a pure georgette lehenga handcrafted and hand embroidered by female artisans from Lucknow, and the couture piece was beautified with baby pearls, sequins, and over 39,000 Swarovski crystals. She complemented the outfit with a pair of her maternal grandmother's heirloom chaandbaalis and a maang tikka.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul complemented his bride in a heavily embroidered mint green kurta, paired with a pair of pyjamas and a cut-sleeve Nehru jacket.
Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul - relationship timeline
First spotted together in public at the premiere of Ahan Shetty's debut film 'Tadap', Athiya and KL Rahul have been dating since 2018. He made their relationship official on Athiya's 29th birthday, which was in 2021, by sharing a picture with the actor on Instagram. His post read: "Happy birthday my (red heart) @athiyashetty".
Rumours suggest that it was Athiya's friend, actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who played cupid for them and brought the duo together. Ever since they made it official, Athiya and KL Rahul have been featured together in several advertisement campaigns, including that of French eyewear brand Numi Paris.
