Whenever we hear the name of Black Forest Cake or any cake, the happiness that comes with that cake and the smiling faces of everyone come to our mind and the sweetness starts to melt on our tongue. Whenever we want to celebrate something, the first thing is to cut the cake because what can be better than a cake to celebrate anything, whether it is a birthday, someone's anniversary or someone's wedding. But today we will only talk about Black Forest Cake, its ingredients and how to make it.

BLACK FOREST CAKE
The first printed recipe for Black Forest Cake was in Germany in the 1900s. However, since then till today there have been many variations in the recipe of Black Forest Cake, all of which are very tasty. Traditionally, the ingredients used to make it are chocolate cake, cherries, whipped cream and Kirschwasser (which is a cherry brandy).
Traditionally, this cake has 3 layers, with the first layer containing cherries, which is the bottom layer. After that, only whipped cream is applied in the second layer and in the topmost layer whipped cream as well as cherries are added and finally the cake is decorated with small pieces of chocolate. All three layers are soaked with Kirschwasser to keep the bread of the cake soft.
It is believed that the name Blackforest cake is derived from the dense black forest, the chocolate sprinkles on top represent the forest itself.
But in today's recipe, we will not add Kirschwasser instead we will add sugar syrup so that everyone can enjoy this cake.
INGREDIENTS FOR BLACK FOREST CAKE RECIPE
For Batter
- Maida (white wheat flour) 130 gms
- Cocoa powder 30gms
- Baking powder 1 tsp
- Baking soda 1/2 tsp
- Condense milk 200 gm
- Castor sugar 60gm
- Oil 80 ml
- Vanilla essence 1 tsp
- Milk 90 ml
- 1 tsp Vinegar
For Compote
- 250 gm seedless cherries
- 75 gm castor sugar
- 1 star anise
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- ½ tbsp corn flour
- ⅓ cup water
For Layering
- Whipping cream
- Cherry juice
- Cherry compote
- Chocolate ganache
- Chocolate shaving

- Star nozzles
PREPARATION FOR BLACK FOREST CAKE
For Batter
- Take a bowl, add milk and lemon juice, mix it well and keep it aside.
- Now add all the dry ingredients like maida (white wheat flour), choco powder, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl and mix well and keep aside.
- Take another bowl and put condensed milk in it and mix it well with a whisk, so that it becomes in the form of cream. After the texture of the cream has been made, add castor sugar and vanilla essence to it, and mix well.
- Now we will add dry ingredients which we have already mixed and we will mix them using the cut-and-fold method.
- Now add the milk mixture and mix it well. Now the mixture is ready.
- We will put this mixture in the cake tin but before that, we will apply butter inside the cake tin so that the cake does not stick and then put butter paper on the bottom of the cake tin.
- Now bake this batter at 170°c for 25-30 minutes.
- After that take it out and keep it aside to cool down.
For Cherry Compote
- Take a pan and add cherries, sugar, cinnamon stick, and star anise and cook until the sugar dissolves and the cherries become soft.
- Meanwhile, mix corn flour with water.
- Pour the slurry mixture into the compote and cook until the mixture becomes thick.
- Cool down completely
For Layering
- Now we will do layering of the baked cake, so first of all cut the cake into 2 layers and take one layer and place it on the cake board.
- Soak with cherry juice, pipe whipping cream in a circle and fill the cavity with cherry compote cover with a thin layer of whipping cream place the second layer and repeat the same process.
- Place the top layer, soak with cherry juice and cover the cake with whipping cream.
- Refrigerate it for 15 minutes.
- Do the final finish of the cake with whipping cream
- Pipe flowers or any design on the edges of the top. Pour the ganache in the centre. Place cherries on the top
NOTE: If you don’t have cherries use any fruit instead - Cover half the cake with chocolate shaving.

Method To Prepare Black Forest Cake
For the cake
- In A bowl, add milk and lemon juice and mix.
- Shift dry ingredients in a bowl and keep aside.
- In another bowl, add condensed milk and cream it.
- Add castor sugar, vanilla essence and cream it.
- Add Dry ingredients and mix them.
- Add milk mixture and mix it.
- Pour the mixture into a lined cake tin with butter paper and bake at 170°c for 25-30 minutes.
- Remove and cool down completely.
For Cherry Compote
- In a pan, add cherries, sugar etc and cook until the sugar dissolves.
- Meanwhile, mix corn flour with water.
- Pour the slurry mixture into the compote and make it thick.
- Cool down completely
For layering
- Cut the sponge into 2. Take the first layer and place it on the cake board.
- Then cherry juice, pipe whipping cream and fill the cavity with cherry compote, place the second layer and repeat
- Place the top layer, soak with cherry juice and cover the cake with whipping cream
- Refrigerate it for 15 minutes.
- Finally, finish with whipping cream.
- Make the design on the top, ganache in the centre and cherries on the top.
- Cover half the cake with chocolate shaving.
