Both chicken 65 and chicken pakora are deep fried chicken dishes, however, they are not the same. The basic difference between the chicken 65 and chicken pakora recipe is in the use of ingredients. The batter in the chicken pakora recipe is prepared from chicken pakora ingredients consisting of gram and rice flour. Chicken 65 recipe however makes use of cornstarch and rice flour, which makes both the dishes different. Moreover, chicken 65 is much spicier than chicken pakora.

You will need the following chicken pakora ingredients to make chicken pakora Indian at home: 

  1. 250 grams of chicken, cut into boneless cubes
  2. 1 medium size onion, sliced
  3. 1-2 green chillies, chopped
  4. 2 sprigs of curry leaves
  5. 6 tbsp gram flour
  6. 3 tbsp rice flour
  7. 1 egg white
  8. ¾ tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  9. ¼ tsp turmeric
  10. ¾ to 1 tsp garam masala
  11. ⅓ tsp salt
  12. 2 tbsp water

Follow the given instructions to prepare chicken pakora recipe: 

  1. To prepare the batter for coating the chicken pieces in the chicken pakora Indian recipe, add gram flour, rice flour, salt, turmeric, chilli powder and garam masala in a bowl. Mix all these chicken pakora ingredients well. 
  2. To prepare the chicken pakora masala, next add in the ginger-garlic paste, onions, curry leaves and green chillies. 
  3. Cut the chicken into cubes of at least ¾ inch, and then add them to the bowl with the chicken pakora masala along with egg whites. 
  4. Mix all the ingredients well, and add water only if needed. Make sure that the chicken pakora masala mixture is not very thick or stiff.
  5. Now to prepare the chicken pakoras, in a pan heat up oil on medium flame. When the oil has turned hot enough, slide the chicken pieces into the oil one after the other.
  6. Make sure to not put a lot of chicken pieces into the pan and crowd it. Once you have put in the chicken pieces, leave them untouched for about 2 minutes. 
  7. Thereafter, stir and fry the chicken pieces for the chicken pakora until they turn golden and crispy. 
  8. Once done, place the chicken pakoras into a cooling rack, and repeat the process for the other batches of chicken. 
  9. Serve hot, with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Pro tip: You can skip adding the egg white in the chicken pakora recipe, and substitute the same by soaking the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, and refrigerate it overnight.
