Spring rolls are traditional to Chinese cuisine. A popular appetiser that can be found in every eatery that serves Chinese food, spring rolls are a flaky and deep-fried dish. Chicken spring rolls are a Chinese savoury snack that is prepared by wrapping chicken and vegetables into pastry sheets, which are then rolled and fried. Traditionally in China, spring rolls are prepared during the spring festival, with vegetables that are available during the spring season. As spring rolls began to gain more popularity and eventually moved out of China to other parts of the world, the recipe found numerous new versions to itself, depending on the region. Spring rolls can be made with eggs, chicken or any meat of one’s choice. There are also dessert versions of spring rolls now.

You will require the following chicken spring roll ingredients to prepare homemade chicken spring rolls: 

  1. 1 cup minced chicken
  2. 12 spring roll wrappers
  3. ½ cup shredded cabbage
  4. ½ cup shredded carrots
  5. 1-2 chopped spring onions
  6. 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  7. 1 tbsp chopped ginger
  8. 1 tsp crushed black peppercorns
  9. ½ tsp crushed red chillies
  10. ½ tsp vinegar
  11. 2 tbsp oil
  12. 1 tsp soy sauce
  13. Flour paste
  14. Salt

Follow the given instructions for the chicken spring roll recipe: 

  1. To prepare the chicken spring roll recipe, heat oil in a non-stick pan. To it add the chopped ginger and garlic and saute well. 
  2. Thereafter add in the cabbage and carrots and toss on high heat. 
  3. Add in the minced chicken, soy sauce, salt, crushed peppercorns and chillies, mix all these chicken spring roll ingredients well, and cook on high heat for about 2-3 minutes. 
  4. Then add in the spring onions, and switch off the heat and mix well. Transfer this chicken spring roll filling to a different container and let it cool.
  5. Place the spring roll wrappers on a flat surface, and then add in a spoonful of the cooked chicken spring roll mixture on one side of the wrapper. 
  6. Roll the wrapper along with the mixture, folding its edges and then seal the chicken spring roll edges with the flour paste.
  7. Heat sufficient oil in a pan, and to it add in the chicken spring rolls and deep fry till they turn golden in colour.
  8. Once done, drain the excess oil from the chicken spring rolls into a kitchen towel, and serve hot.
