Cherrapunji
This new domestic gin is a true bottled representation of Cherrapunji's rainwater. Cherrapunji Gin, created by Mayukh Hazarika of Shillong, is bursting with the vibrant aromas of young, velvety junipers grown in the Eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. In addition to the smokiness, there are spicy peppers and other ingredients in the mixture. The members of Team Cherrapunji independently procure all of the plants from Northeast India and collect rainwater in the nearby town of Mawsynram. The orange peel comes from Meghalaya's GI-tagged Khasi mandarins, the tea from Assam, and the peppers from the jungles of Meghalaya. What makes this gin special isn't only the way it's made; it's also the reusable stainless steel bottle that has colourful artwork that depicts Meghalayan life. Cherrapunji Gin is already on sale in Meghalaya and will soon be accessible in major cities throughout India.
