Takht, the much-awaited movie, that has been written by Sumit Roy and Hussain Haidry, and is being brought to life by director-producer Karan Johar was first announced in August 2019. Although the initial Takht release date was supposed to be on April 24, 2020, it got delayed due to the pandemic. Thereafter, Karan Johar, who has been the force behind this massive project announced that the necessary proceedings of the movie would resume after the release of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. With a stellar Takht cast, starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar, Takht is surely going to be a big hit in the theatres.
Takht cast and plot
With a star-studded cast, Takht movie is a period drama, set in the backdrop of the Mughal era. The story of Takht mainly focuses on the infamous animosity that existed between Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh. It can be gathered that among the Takht cast, the role of the main characters, such as Aurangzeb will be played by Vicky Kaushal, while Ranveer Singh plays the role of Dara Shukoh. The Takht teaser was released on April 24, 2021, and the Takht trailer is yet to be released.
Takht movie was thought to have been shelved as per reports, however, Karan Johar had himself confirmed that such is not the case and that Takht release date has only been delayed. The director also called Takht his passion project and it has only raised the stakes.
Much anticipated and for a reason, the plot of the Takht movie is inspired by the sibling rivalry that history witnessed between Shahjahan's sons, Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh. Their lust for the throne and the events that unfolded make for the story that gets explored in Takht, with Aurangzeb and Dara played by Bollywood's hunks Vicky Kaushal and Ranveer Singh respectively. Kareena Kapoor Khan is slated to play Jahanara Begum, and Alia Bhatt will be essaying the role of Dilras Banu Begum. Apart from these actors, Janhvi Kapoor will be seen in the role of Nadira Banu Begum, and Bhumi Pednekar will be bringing Roshanara Begum to life with her acting chops. The role of Shah Jahan will be played by none other than Anil Kapoor, which is a casting choice like no other.

The preparations for Takht have been taking place for a long time now, considering the large-scale project the movie is. Although not much about Takht is known yet, we surely cannot wait to get our hands on more information regarding Takht trailer and Takht release date, and finally be able to witness this grand film on the big screens soon.
