Through distinct initiatives, Pune had launched the Global Ganesh Festival (GGF), which is the very first of its kind on the eve of Ganeshotsav. Having taken up bold and significant steps to boost religious tourism in the city, Pune aims towards attracting global visitors with the introduction of this international Ganesh festival.

A Pune Ganesh festival which was initiated by the Ganeshotsav organisers of the city, this Ganesh festival in Pune is also driven by the international youth participation. The GGF 2024 began with a global summit, where some of the leading Ganeshotsav Mandals of Pune had taken part in. The summit was also attended by a number of foreign students coming from various parts of the world, as well as representatives and officials from the tourism and hospitality industry. 

As a part of the proceedings of the summit, discussions were carried out regarding the promotion and enhancement of Pune’s economy through religious tourism. The introduction of the Pune Ganesh festival marks a significant aspect of growth in this sector. Furthermore, the Ganesh Festival in Pune will not only contribute towards gaining international recognition but at the same time also aid towards creating jobs and promoting traditional, historical and cultural enhancement of the city.

Along with the introduction of the Pune Ganesh festival, the ‘Morya Helpline’ was also announced, which has been created to provide assistance to international tourists who would be visiting the religious landmarks of the city. In the coming years, the Ganesh festival in Pune aims towards competing with major international events as well. 

Pune has long been considered one of the first places to host the Ganpati festival in history. In fact, Pune, which is now known as an education and IT hub, has a long glorious history of being one of the most culturally rich cities in the country. It was also the capital of the erstwhile Maratha empire, and Ganesh Chaturthi was one of the biggest celebrations of Peshwai.
