India At Olympics: So Close Yet So Far

Indian campaign at the Olympics 2024 this year was a bit of hit and miss, with the total number of Indian Olympic medals being lesser than the last. With six medals being won at the Paris Olympics this year, quite heartbreakingly, the medals won by India in Olympics had no gold this time. Despite the high hopes and significant chances this time, India at Olympics failed to match its best ever medal tally as compared to the Tokyo Olympics from last time. The Indian Olympic winners faced quite a close misses this time, including Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and fourth-place finishes. The journey of India at Olympics began with 117 athletes taking part in the competition and with an expectation of touching the double-digit medal tally. Manu Baker is known to be India’s shooting marvel. She is an all-Indian Olympic winner this time, as she was seen securing the first medal won by India in Olympics at the quadrennial event in France, seizing a bronze in the Women’s 10m Pistol Competition.

After becoming the first Indian Olympic winner to have won two medals in a single edition of the Summer Games, Manu Baker also achieved the bronze medal along with Sarabjot Singh in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the Paris Olympics this year.

Swapnil Kusale, Olympic winner of India increased the medal tally for the shooting team by securing the bronze medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Position event. He has now become the first-ever Indian Olympic winner in this particular category.

Neeraj Chopra has become the new talk of the country, as he made history by becoming an Indian Olympic winner of the silver medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw Competition. Marking a significant milestone, Neeraj Chopra is now the two-time Olympic winner of India by achieving two medals.
