The 2024 Paris Olympics fever has taken over the world, and quite aptly so. From the schedule of Paris Olympics 2024 to what the Olympic athletes are wearing for the opening ceremony, to Indian Olympic athletes list, the internet is buzzing with all the information one can possibly need about the Indian contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Tokyo in 2020 was one of our most successful stints, with Indian Olympic athletes grabbing 7 medals, including Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold in men’s javelin throw, and this year, our athletes, representing India at Paris Olympics 2024, will look forward to breaking that record, and hopefully get to double digits.
While there are some older names making their appearance again on the coveted stage, many of the athletes representing India at Paris Olympics 2024 are first-timers, and the excitement is very very palpable.
Here are some of the promising Indian athletes we’re looking forward to see create magic at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Neeraj Chopra
One of the biggest names representing India at Paris Olympics 2024 is the athlete Neeraj Chopra. Since his historic gold at Tokyo’20, Chopra has won a slew of championships, and it is safe to say that a lot of eyes will be glued to their screens hoping he recreates the magic on August 6 and 8, at the qualification, and final event at the Paris Olympics 2024.
PV Sindhu
Another big name holding up India at Paris Olympics 2024 would be ace shuttler PV Sindhu who has made her mark at the Olympics twice, at both Rio and Tokyo. She picked up a silver medal at Rio Olympics and a bronze at Tokyo Olympics, making her one of the only Indian athletes in Badminton to make a mark at the Olympics, apart from Saina Nehwal’s bronze at the London Olympics.
Lakshya Sen
Another of the shuttlers representing India at Paris Olympics 2024 is Lakshya Sen, who with his rankings made his debut this year at the Olympics, and has been a crowd favourite since. He has since been the first Indian to reach the men’s semifinals in Badminton at Olympics, and has everyone rooting for a medal.
Rohan Bopanna
Moving on from the Badminton stars, let’s talk about the oldest athlete representing India at Paris Olympics 2024. Rohan Bopanna also made news earlier this year, when he became the oldest first time No. 1 after winning his first major doubles title at the 2024 Australian Open. The tennis star has since however announced that it’d be the last time he’s part of the Indian Olympics athletes list and that he’ll be retiring post his stint at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Dhinidhi Desinghu
While Bopanna is the oldest, 14 year old swimmer, Dhinidhi Desinghu is the youngest to represent India at Paris Olympics 2024. Recognised early by her father, who also happens to a swimmer, Dhinidhi was also the youngest participant at 2022 Asian Games, and while the pressure to make a mark 2024 Paris Olympics will be immense, her journey has just started, and we can’t wait to see what magic she does at the pool this year.
Manu Bhaker
Among the Olympic athletes making their debut at the Paris Olympics 2024 also happens to be the shooter Manu Bhaker. Her first Olympics has proven to be quite a charm with Manu bringing home back 2 bronze medals, in women’s and mixed 10 m air pistol. The 22 year old shooter, who also happens to be an Arjuna Award winner, with her two medals has become the first female Indian shooter to win at the Olympics.
Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala
Two other shooters who will be representing India at Paris Olympics 2024, in 25m Rapid-Fire Pistol Men’s, and have the fans hoping for more medals in the sport that has quickly risen in popularity in the past few years. Anish Bhanwala has been a part of the Indian shooting squad since 2017, but this will be his first Olympics, while Vijayveer Sidhu last made his mark at the Asian Games in 2022 where he won a bronze.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu
Chanu will be another of the athletes that will do the heavy lifting for India at Paris Olympics 2024, and quite literally at that. She’s one of the Olympic athletes to win big at 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and brought home a silver, and come August 7, the nation’s eyes will be on her, hoping for a gold this time.
Vinesh Phogat
Another of the veteran Olympic athletes the country will be looking forward to, when it comes to India at Paris Olympics is Vinesh Phogat. Cousin to famous wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat, Vinesh also comes with a stellar winning record, and prior experience at the Olympics, which will prove to be quite beneficial at the Paris Olympics 2024 where the lineup seems to be quite tight. One of the most accomplished women wrestlers in the country, Vinesh will have all eyes on her in the second half of the Olympics as the wrestling competitions start.
Indian Hockey Team
We know that this is not one player, but the Indian Hockey Team was one of the first-ever winners at the Olympics, and despite ups and downs, are some of the most commendable set of Indian Olympic athletes. Their stint at the Paris Olympics 2024 has been fun to watch, especially the very thrilling match with the Great Britain team that has landed them in the semi-finals with Germany, and to be hopeful for gold this time is, well, quite obvious.
