The island life is loved by all. There is an endless supply of breathtaking islands to explore in every ocean, perfect for those who like to relax poolside with a coconut, read a book as the waves lap against the shore, or trek inland for a more adventurous experience.
However, if you're like us—an island addict with restless feet—you'll seek out activities to occupy your time after a day of sunbathing. Animation in the hotel bar is not what we mean. Our ideal island getaway would not consist of sunbathing on a normal luxury island but rather of exploring a rural community's culture, marvelling at penguin colonies, or hiking around erupting volcanoes.
Taiwan
Taiwan is perfect in every way. Its spine juts out 260 or so peaks, all of which are more than three thousand meters in height, and the entire mountain is covered in verdant subtropical foliage, tea plantations, and seasonal sakura. It's modern yet culturally rich; the ancient temples of Tainan seem like a planet away from modern Taipei. A ride on the high-speed rail, though, can connect the two in under an hour and a half.
Not to mention the country's smaller islands, which further diversify its coastlines: the eastern region boasts volcanic shorelines battered by waves, the southern region offers serene golden sands, and the northern region boasts cooler beaches just minutes away from hot springs. Truly one of the most beautiful islands in the world!
You can practically go across the entire country by train if you go to this country. The coast-hugging services, which once connected mines occupied by the Japanese, as well as the old Pingxi mountain line, which led to the deepest parts of the Alishan Forest using wood-constructed carriages, were all reopened in 2025 after a 15-year closure. Taiwan is the perfect little getaway for anyone looking to see all the wonders of East Asia without breaking the bank. From sleeping in a temple to seeing Sakura, experiencing the lantern festival to eating street food at world-class night markets, there's something for everyone.
The Maldives
The Maldives have a long history of being associated with idyllic islands, and for a long time, it was thought that only the wealthy could afford to visit these islands. Nonetheless, we found out that a day trip to the nation might be done for as little as $50. The key is to stay on native islands, like Fuldihoo, rather than on those pricey resort islands with their overwater villas and $10 water bottles.
Additionally, there were other advantages to going to Fulidhoo. Staying on a local island gives you a taste of Maldivian life away from the resort islands and allows you to sample more traditional island cuisine rather than the foreign fare served at resorts. Of all the breakfasts in the world, tourists love the Maldivian one the most! Enjoy your breakfast with the view of the most beautiful islands in the world!
Madagascar
When it comes to unique species, few countries can compare to Madagascar. Located off the coast of southeast Africa, the island nation of Madagascar boasts some amazing flora and fauna thanks to its unique development over millennia. Famous inhabitants include towering baobab trees, airy lemurs, and colorful panther chameleons. Approximately 90% of the island's fauna is thought to be comprised of endemic species, meaning they are not found anywhere else in the world.
Starting in 2025, Emirates will be offering flights to Madagascar every six weeks. The world's fourth-largest island still has plenty of wild and unusual things to do, but there are also many beautiful spots across the archipelago. One such spot is Miavana, a private, ultra-luxurious, and environmentally conscious island resort that offers home comforts in addition to the famous lemur sightings and world-class scuba diving. Your travel bucketlist should include this country which has one of the most beautiful islands in the world!
Tanzania
Once upon a time, Zanzibar, Tanzania—also known as the Spice Island—was the world's leading clove grower. You will appreciate this island if you love spices. While Stone Town, the capital, is a remarkable site with its carved doors, maze-like lanes, and breathtaking sunsets, the real wonders of Zanzibar lie beyond the city walls. The only place on Earth where you may see the extremely uncommon red colobus monkeys is in Jozani Forest, which is located in the island's central region. Take a spice tour to experience the flavours that made this portion of the continent so rich, and visit the slave caves to learn about the island's sad history.
Not to mention the beaches. Tourists flock to Zanzibar's beaches. Still another Tanzanian beach that the mist visits? The island of Nungwi is located near its northernmost point. There, you may take a tour of the neighbouring community, relax on perfect white sand beaches, and watch carpenters construct fishing boats right on the beach.
Mozambique
The Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique may be the perfect small hideaway for those seeking a less touristic version of paradise. Getting out on the ocean and exploring the islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago is the main reason why everyone is in Vilanculos. Among all the places in the world, these are among the most spectacular.
The third-largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Ilha de Magaruque, is where you can have the most memorable travel experiences in Africa. Take a day trip to a stunning beach where you can snorkel with octopi, hunt for the rare dugongs that call this coastline home, feast on a seafood barbecue, go sailing in a converted fishing boat, and climb dunes to capture images of the sandbanks.
