There has been a dramatic increase in the number of environmental resorts in India as a result of the world's rapidly changing climate. These facilities have thoughtfully planned ways to protect the environment and make visitors aware of their impact on it, such as only using locally grown produce, prohibiting plastic, collecting rainwater, and building with natural materials. A visit to one of these environmental resorts in India can satisfy your wanderlust while also making you feel good about your impact on your surroundings.
Amaya, Kasauli
Amaya is a property where natural and manufactured elements blend together on a carpet of wild grass and pine. Only 15 rooms are located on the roughly 25 acres of land here; the remainder is occupied by towering trees, rustling leaves, and peeping flowers. The soil-and-limestone buildings have all the contemporary conveniences one might want, but the most prized amenity is undoubtedly the natural light streaming into the rooms and the picturesque vistas of the surrounding vegetation.
Soak in the infinity pool, which is climate-controlled, or curl up with a good book in the library's warm fireplace. At the Amaya Dham, you may enjoy traditional dishes with modern twists, such as Siddu filled with Asian-style pork and other new tastes. It is a community of villas that blends well with the land's natural features, such as its terraces, paddy fields, water channels, and pathways for strolling.
This property aimed at a reforestation effort that would benefit both the locals and the environment. They planned to restore degraded mountain areas through the establishment of a habitat that would not only allow nature to thrive again but also restore areas that had been damaged by human activity.
Tamara, Kodaikanal
The 53-suite building, which is now a luxury historical resort, was formerly a retreat for the monks of Nagapattinam and dates back to the 1840s. To this day, the abundant local biodiversity and the preservation of the environment have been paramount in the planning and construction of this stunning hotel.
The rooms of The Tamara Kodai are exquisitely appointed for the most opulent of stays. In particular, the Luxury and Super Luxury suites include a balcony overlooking the hills and a colonial-style sitting area, making them ideal for romantic afternoons spent watching birds and sipping on a cup of tea. If you are travelling with your family, the Neelakurinji Suite is the way to go. With two bedrooms, plush furnishings, a private terrace, and a luxurious Jacuzzi, this place is sure to wow.
At La Providence, The Tamara Kodai's all-day dining establishment, you'll be spoilt for choice with their delicious buffet. At the live counters, you may indulge in traditional Indian dishes or choose from a variety of international favourites. The French-style vintage resto-bar Bistro 1845 serves a variety of cuisines, including European, Asian, and Indian. Sign up for a session and give the chefs a hand with a few classic dishes; they'll be pleased to organise cooking demos for you.
Spice World, Thekkady
Spice Village, one of CGH Earth's assets, is a 12-acre resort that is equally kind to the environment and its visitors; it was an early adopter of sustainable tourism methods in Kerala. From the luxurious beach retreat Marari Beach, to the immersive forest lodge Wayanad Wild, the hotel group's diversified range highlights an eco-sensitive approach.
The vast majority of a property's components are either made or sourced from inside the immediate area. The local Manan people inspired many aspects of Spice Village's architecture, including the use of elephant grass for thatching cottage roofs to provide natural cooling. The hotel's paper-making section upcycles discarded fabric and kitchen trash into welcome garlands and notepads in each room; the furniture is made of recycled pinewood.
When it comes to restaurants, there are a lot of choices- Tamarind serves both local and international cuisine, Woodhouse Bar is named after the former forest ranger who lived there, and The 50-Mile Diet embodies the hotel's philosophy of sourcing all ingredients from within the region, including spices and vegetables from the hotel's organic farms as well as fresh fish from the river. You may detox with herbal drinks and Ayurvedic consultations, or you can work up a sweat playing sports like tennis or basketball. Take advantage of the hotel's cookery courses, spice plantation excursions, and naturalist walks, but don't forget to visit the adjacent Periyar Tiger Reserve.
Wildernest Nature Resort, Goa
Wildernest has been in operation for fifteen years and has successfully reduced animal poaching in the 900-acre Swapnagandha Valley private sanctuary, protecting crucial forests and other species. Present-day amenities include an Ayurvedic rejuvenation facility, a stunning ionised infinity pool that uses very little chlorine, a restaurant offering regional cuisine, and twenty-two eco-cottages. Squeezed between the borders of Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, the Mahdei area forms a "wildlife corridor" that tigers, leopards, and wild dogs are able to freely traverse.
There is a wide variety of activities available at the resort, such as nature hikes, excursions, village visits, and folk dances. Nobody could ask for a more perfect place to relax. Embark on a nature walk with knowledgeable guides and immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the Western Ghats. Swim in the refreshing water of a gushing waterfall while listening to the chirping of native birds and the screech of a giant squirrel. The local community naturalists and guests form lasting bonds during their campfire activities. While delicious woodland roots and shoots are cooked over a slow blaze, all that is required is the sharing and narration of jungle legend.
Barefoot in Havelock, Andamans
As an eco-friendly resort, Barefoot at Havelock is unlike any other place you've ever been. Giving back to the community and environment is important to us since it aligns with our earth-based attitude. Their goal, both at the resort and on excursions, is to provide guests with an authentic Andaman experience.
They have invested much in the property to create an environment that is evocative of the Andaman you have imagined, complete with a white sand beach and verdant rainforest. They do a plethora of things that make the Andamans more sustainable, which is great!
The resort is nestled in complete serendipity, providing an escape from the demands of everyday life. There is a unique stillness at the resort, created by the combination of the crisp seaside air and the views through the trees. Numerous possibilities abound at the Radhanagar Beach facility. Soak in the sun's rays as they create a kaleidoscope of skyscapes, or try your hand at water sports. Some examples are scuba diving, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking. Cross the resort on foot and relax by the water's edge.
