Nestled in the verdant landscapes of Eastern India, Odisha has launched a groundbreaking wildlife experience – the world's first-ever melanistic tiger safari. This extraordinary venture, located near the Similipal Tiger Reserve in the district of Mayurbhanj, marks a significant milestone in wildlife tourism and conservation.

The melanistic tiger, a rare genetic variant of the Bengal tiger, features strikingly dense, black stripes on its coat, distinguishing it from its conventional counterparts. This unique safari is poised to offer an exclusive glimpse into the enigmatic world of these majestic creatures.
The safari spans over 200 hectares, adjacent to Baripada and a mere 15 kilometres from the Similipal Reserve. The area will be meticulously divided, with 100 hectares dedicated to the tigers' display and the remaining space allocated for essential facilities such as veterinary care, staff quarters, visitor amenities, and a state-of-the-art rescue centre.
This initiative is not merely a tourist attraction; it embodies Odisha's dedication to preserving its diverse ecosystem and the rare species that call it home. The Similipal Tiger Reserve itself is a testament to this commitment, encompassing 2,750 square kilometres of rich biodiversity, including over 50 mammal species, 300 bird varieties, and 60 reptile species.
Visitors to this safari will embark on a journey through lush forests, alongside rivers, encountering the splendour of nature and the awe-inspiring presence of the black tiger. This project, awaiting final approvals from conservation authorities, is set to redefine wildlife tourism and conservation efforts in India.
