Chittorgarh is a major city and a prominent historical site in Rajasthan, synonymous with the legendary Chittorgarh Fort. It is also the administrative headquarters of the eponymous district. The erstwhile capital of the Mewar kingdom, the city boasts magnificent forts, palaces, and a rugged landscape that is iconic to the state.
Although the city is famous for the iconic fort, there are a lot of adventurous things you can include in your sightseeing for an ultimate vacation.
1. Chittorgarh fort
Chittorgarh Fort, a UNESCO heritage site, is one of the top places to visit in Chittorgarh. The intimidating beauty and imposing architecture of the fort and the gallant history of Rajput draw crowds from all over the world. Historians believe that Mauryan rulers built this fort sometime around the 7th century AD. The name Chittorgarh comes from Chittrangad Maurya, a Maurya ruler. Furthermore, Chittorgarh was the capital of Mewar during Sisodia and Gahlot's rule from the 8th to 16th centuries.
2. Kriti Stambh
The Kirti Stambh, also known as the Tower of Fame, is a famous and ancient tower built on the premises of the Fort of Chittorgarh by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over the Khilji Dynasty. It is the oldest tower at the premises of the fort and it towers up to 22 metres from the base. Based on the Solanki style of architecture, this tower has always attracted tourists from all over the world.
3. Fateh Prakash Palace and Museum
Fateh Prakash Palace Museum is located at Chittor Village, Chittorgarh District, Rajasthan. This is a museum inside the Chittorgarh Palace. This museum has a vast collection of arts and crafts belonging to the mediaeval period and Rajputana antiquities. The palace was built by Maharana Pratap Singh and is named after him.
4. Sathis Deori Temple
One of the best-sacred places to visit in Chittorgarh is located inside the Chittorgarh Fort. It was built in the 11th century to celebrate the life and righteousness of Bhagawan Adinatha, a local god revered by This massive Jain temple has an ingenious architectural style that attracts even non-religious people. The detailing inside the temple and its awesome domes will blow your mind.
5. Sita Mata Wildlife Sanctuary
According to mythology, when goddess Sita was separated from Lord Rama, she used to live in these forests and the Sita Mata wildlife sanctuary is named after her. This place is home to various bird species, animals, and the rivers Jakham and Karmoi. Along with unique species like spotted deer, jungle cat, jackal, flying squirrel, etc. It also consists of salar, bamboo, tendu, amla, and teak flora.
6. Kalika Mata Mandir
Kalika Mata Temple is an 8th-century Hindu temple located within the Chittor Fort in the Chittorgarh municipality of Rajasthan state in India. It was originally a Sun temple which was partly destroyed and was rebuilt during the time of Rana Kumbha. In the 14th century, Maharana Lakshman Singh lit a lamp called Akhanda Jyoti.
7. Ratan Singh Palace
The Ratan Singh Palace is attributed to King Rana Ratan Singh II (AD 1528 - 31). Located along the Ratneshwar Talab in the Chittor area, it is rectangular on plan and enclosed by a high wall. The palace comprises courtyards surrounded by rooms, towers, deorhis, etc. Another highlight of the area is a temple known as Ratneshwar Mahadeva Temple, which is on the north of the main gateway.
8. Gaumukh Reservoir
Shaped like the mouth of a cow, the Gaumukh Reservoir is an important tank of the Chittorgarh Fort. It is located near a temple and is a complete natural beauty. Feeding the fish here is considered to be an auspicious ritual. A spring feeds the tank from a carved cow's mouth on the cliff. This pool was the main source of water at the fort during the numerous sieges.
9. Meera Temple
The Meera Temple is a standout amongst the most prevalent temples in Chittorgarh. Committed to Meera Bai, the temple has both authentic and religious relevance. A visit to this temple is a must amid the myriad of Chittorgarh visits. The engineering of the temple is one of the main reasons for it to be considered a popular temple in Chittorgarh. On visiting the temple, you will have the capacity to see the cut statue of the five human bodies and one head. This statue is a statement of faith and a sign of the transient way of the human body. The temple is additionally near the Fateh Prakash Palace.
