To say Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is on a roll would be an understatement. Of late, he has constantly been making headlines – from his artistic nude photoshoot for a magazine, appearance on Koffee with Karan season 7 and Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, to his upcoming film Rocky and Rani Ki Prem Kahani with mom-to-be Alia Bhatt. On Sunday, September 4, 2022, the actor officially forayed into the startup ecosystem by investing in homegrown beauty brand SUGAR Cosmetics. Apart from being an investor, Ranveer will also be SUGAR Cosmetics’ brand ambassador.
Ranveer’s investment is expected to boost the homegrown brand’s plans of expansion in potential markets. This is his first investment and talking about which, in the press statement, the actor said, “Defying the conventional has been embedded in my DNA and I take pride in partnering with a brand that believes in empowering women. I have admired SUGAR’s ability to build a tremendous fan following over the years and I’m excited to be a part of this journey and help the brand achieve its mission of providing Indian women access to premium and quality makeup products specially formulated for them.”
SUGAR Cosmetics CEO and co-founder Vineeta Singh said her team and she are thrilled to have Ranveer on board as an investor and brand ambassador. She also mentioned that there is a lot common between the brand and Ranveer’s personalities. Undoubtedly, he is one of the most popular youth icons in India right now. “SUGAR is the makeup of choice for bold, independent women who refuse to be stereotyped into roles and if someone shares the same DNA as ours, it is Ranveer! His personality of being bold, quirky, and vibrant makes the partnership a natural fit.”
“His unstoppable and clutter-breaking personality fits very well with the brand ethos of SUGAR. This will help supercharge our growth trajectory as we continue scaling SUGAR aggressively to build it into a large and much-loved makeup & beauty brand,” said Kaushik Mukherjee, co-founder, and COO of SUGAR Cosmetics.
Apart from Ranveer, the Indian startup ecosystem has managed to convince several other Bollywood stars to step into investors’ shoes. The list includes Ranveer’s wife and entrepreneur Deepika Padukone, who has invested in Furlenco, Purplle, BluSmart, Epigamia, Bellatrix Aerospace, and Front Row; his fellow star Alia Bhatt, who has bet her money on Stylecracker and Nykaa; and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who has invested in Hyderabad-based SustainKart.
