From Sonam Kapoor to Varun Dhawan, here's how the tinsel town is embracing the dhoti pants trend this year

This year was all about comfort over style and if there was one trend that made a trendy comeback it was the good ‘ol dhoti pants. Celebrities from the Indian film and TV industry took the dhoti pant style to the red carpet and back à la Priyanka Chopra Jonas who teamed her dhoti pants with separates as the presenter at the 74th edition of the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTAs). Taking a style cue from our Bollywood celebrities, here’s a roundup of the best dhoti pants looks if want to stay comfortably stylish this festive season.

1. Sonam Kapoor 

Last month, when actor Sonam Kapoor turned muse for fashion designer Kunal Rawal at the 14th edition and second virtual edition of Fashion Design Council of India's (FDCI) India Couture Week (ICW), she donned a pair of dhoti pants with a bandhgala to present his Vision Quest collection. The ivory outfit was paired with an embroidered overcoat and gold jewellery. Here's something new to try this wedding season if you want to ditch the traditional lehenga, saree and salwar suit.

2. Karishma Tanna 

A popular name in the Indian television industry, Karishma Tanna, slays in this Sonam Luthria outfit. In this co-ord set, she pairs dhoti pants with a shirt kurta in a colourful tie and dye pattern. Keeping the look minimalistic, she pairs the outfit with plain beige juttis and silver earrings. Casual yet classy, this look is a perfect option for a small family function or an intimate soiree.   

3. Vidya Balan 

In this Neeta Lulla outfit, Bollywood actor Vidya Balan channels her inner bohemian spirit, as she teams the red floral dhoti pants with a red tasseled poncho. A simple low ponytail, nude makeup, and silver jewellery make this entire look funky and festive.

4. Priyanka Chopra 

Trust actor, producer, and global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas to make a statement in a fusion outfit paired with haute jewellery. With classic white dhoti pants and an embellished, collared jacket by Pertegaz barring her midriff, the style diva gives a sassy twist to the humble dhoti pants. Red carpet ready in Bulgari jewels; take inspiration from this look to make risqué look elegant.

5. Shamita Shetty 

Actor Shamita Shetty, who was recently making headlines from the Big Boss house, looks stunning in this Gopi Vaid ensemble. Here, she wears cream coloured dhoti pants with pink and cream flared sleeve kurta and a stole. A touch of golden on the dhoti pants, pink floral design on the kurta, and the net border on sleeves-- are all you need to make traditional fun. Keep the look simple or pair it with silver juttis and silver earrings to step out in style.    

6. Monal Gajjar 

South Indian star, Monal Gajjar makes a stunning statement in white dhoti pants and a white full sleeve short kurta with floral embroidery. To complete the look, she goes for navy blue peep toes with silver beads, and silver earrings, and long curls. This Architha Narayanam outfit seems apt for a casual day out with friends.

7. Varun Dhawan 

While women are acing the dhoti pants trend, men are not far behind. Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan looks handsome as ever in black dhoti pants paired with a black shirt and brown Kolhapuris. In the next slide, he can be seen wearing a similar outfit in grey with a Nehru jacket on it.
