Ingredients For Dal Chawal Recipe

  • For Rice

    • 1 cup rice

    • 1 ¾ cup water

    • 2 - 3 tbsp ghee

    • 1 tsp salt

  • For Tadka

    • 2 - 3 tbsp ghee

    • 1 tsp jeera

    • 1 tsp red chilli powder

    • 2 - 3 kashmiri red chillies

  • For Dal

    • 1 bowl Arhar Dal (soaked)

    • 2 tbsp ghee

    • 1 tsp salt

    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

    • 1 tsp jeera

    • 1 cup chopped onion

    • 1/4 cup chopped garlic

    • 1/2 cup chopped tomato

    • 2 - 3 green chillies (chopped)

    • 1/4 cup chopped ginger

    • 1 cup fresh coriander (chopped)

    • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • For Aloo Sabzi

    • 4 - 5 boiled potatoes cut into thick pieces

    • 2 - 3 tbsp ghee

    • 1 tsp jeera

    • 1 tsp haldi powder

    • 1 tsp garam masala

    • 1 tsp aamchur powder

    • salt to taste

    • fresh coriander

How to make Dal Chawal Recipe?

  1. Soak a cup of rice for a good 30 minutes.
  2. In a pan boil water, add salt and ghee.
  3. Put the soaked rice in the pan and leave it to cook.
  4. Let the rice simmer for about 18 to 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat. Allow the rice to steam in the pot for another 5 minutes.
  6. In a pan heat ghee, add a spoon of jeera haldi powder, garam masala and aamchur powder.
  7. Add chopped boiled potato and fresh chopped coriander and toss in the masala. Add salt as needed.
  8. In a pan boil water, add arhar dal, salt, haldi and let it cook for a good 30 minutes.
  9. In another pan, add ghee, jeera, chopped garlic, chopped onion and let it cook.
  10. Add dry masalas- haldi, red chilli powder, dhaniya powder. Add chopped tomatoes to this and allow it to cook well.
  11. Now pour the boiled arhar dal in the tadka and add chopped ginger,chopped green chillies,chopped coriander and a dash of lemon juice.
  12. For final tadka; in hot ghee, add jeera, red chilli powder, dried red chillies and pour it over the dal just before serving.
  13. Serve a Hot plate of dal chawal and aloo ki sabzi.
