With the Barbie movie breaking records everywhere, more and more filmmakers decided to experiment with live action adaptations of much loved content, and we are here for it! Nostalgia-inducing, fun, and exploring different takes, these upcoming live action adaptations have us intrigued. While there are some that explore different angles, like the upcoming Snow White adaptation, which has gone from the story of Snow White and the seven swarfs to Snow White and the Evil Queen, other like How To Train Your Dragon retain their original story. Either way, we’ll be found booking out tickets to see these movies to watch in 2025.

One of the most anticipated upcoming live action movies, Lilo And Stitch will follow the original story of the two meeting and the chaos that ensued. For the fans of the cartoon series, this movie release in 2025 promises to be quite a treat, and if you’ve seen the teaser released, you know what we are talking about. Starring Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Agudong as Nani, and Chris Sanders voicing Stitch, this movie is expected to release in May, 2025.

An upcoming live action movie that has all of us excited, How To Train Your Dragon is expected to release in June, 2025. Starring Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker in major roles, this is a live action remake of the Dreamworks Animation set of films with the same name, and we just can’t wait to see Toothless come alive on the big screens.

This one is in the making, so there is not much known about the upcoming live action movie Voltron. Amazon MGM, the producers for the film, in late November shared the star cast, getting the fans all excited! While his stint as Superman is over, seeing Henry Cavill in a live action movie adaptation is always a visual treat. Joining him on the adventure will be Daniel Quinn-Toye, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora and John Kim.

The Disney classic Snow White is a regular on the live action movie adaptations, with each creator/filmmaker bringing their own twist to the story. This one is a musical fantasy film that has us all excited because the screenplay will be by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. And if that wasn’t enough, the star cast for this live action movie releasing in March includes gems like Gal Gadot, Rachel Zegler, and Andrew Burnap.

Now this is for sure an interesting entry on the list of live action movies in 2025. Described as ‘raunchy horror’ by the makers, Popoye’s 2025 live action adaptation follows a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the ‘Sailor Man’, who is believed to haunt the factory and local docks. Starring Jason Stephens in the titular role, this film is expected to release sometime in late 2025.

Another upcoming live action adaptation movie, albeit from a TV series, happens to Henry Danger: The Movie. The movie is set to premiere on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ in January, 2025. Jace Norman will be reprising his role as the titular character, and the movie will be the last part in franchise. This follows the series finale of Danger Force, which happens to a spinoff.

Tis the season for horror live action movie adaptations it seems! Pinocchio Unstrung is the fifth instalment of The Twisted Childhood Universe, and as the name suggests, is a horror retelling of the classic ‘Adventures of Pinocchio’. Expected to release mid 2025, this new live-action adaptation follows the story of James, who is introduced to a magical doll ‘Pinocchio’ by his grandfather Gapetto, and the two become friends. James, who is unaware of Pinocchio’s naive understanding of the world, introduces him to society, and the mayhem that follows as the magical doll sets out on a crusade to eliminate all things bad is what makes the plot of the story.

Apart from this lineup of upcoming live movie adaptations, for the fans, there are also movies like Moana and My Hero Academia, but while the former is set to release in 2026, the latter’s dates have not been announced yet.
