The Billboard Awards, continuing on to their 30th year, have once again put on pedestal the best of the best in music, both in America and around the world. The Billboard Charts record the best, most listened to songs throughout the year on a weekly basis. At the end of the year, the artists who put forth their best foot across 69 categories, are declared the future of the upcoming saga of music and everything melodious.

This year, the 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) started with a blast with performances from a number of famed artists, such as Tate McRae and Bebe Rexha with the legendary DJ, David Guetta. Moreover, groups from the world of K-pop, namely, New Jeans and Stray Kids, also shook the ground with a synchronised display of their talents. Finally, punctuating the night and setting the mood for the upcoming festive season, the queen of Xmas, Mariah Carey, sang her all-time highest grossing hit ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’.

Coming to the BBMA winners and awards ceremony, 2 names reigned big time. First was, of course, the ERAS tour performer and possibly the biggest pop culture icon of all time, Miss Taylor Swift. Bagging a total of 10 awards categories such as Billboard Music Awards for Top Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Song Sales Artist, she tallied her total number of Billboard Awards to a staggering 39 trophies. Considering that the ‘Anti-hero’ singer literally saved the economy of the USA through her ERAS tour and became the first-ever billionaire who is also a female musical artist in the span of one year, she is truly making history and becoming the moment.

The biggest name of the night was Morgan Wallen. While this singer songwriter may not be known far and wide, his American fanbase is not to be messed with. Gathering more trophies than even Taylor Swift, Wallen won 11 awards at the Billboard Music Awards 2023. Rising to fame in 2014, the Last Night singer has been topping the country music charts throughout the USA. Most of his many trophies belonged to categories like Top Country Artist and Top Male Artist. Another mega famous country artist, Zach Bryan, came in third with a total of 4 Billboard trophies to his name.

In other awards, the evergreen roster of Billboard Champions included Drake, for Top Rap and Top Rap Male Artist, Nicki Minaj for Top Female Rap Artist, and Miley Cyrus with 3 awards for her song ‘Flowers.’ To look out for are newer names like SZA and 21 Savage, each receiving 3 awards for R&B and Rap, respectively. In the genre of K-pop, girl power stole the show with Blackpink winning as the Top K-pop Touring Artist and New Jeans winning as the Top K-pop Artist in 2023. Arctic Monkeys won in the Top Rock Group category while Coldplay won as the Top Rock Touring Group. Selena Gomez, for her collaboration with Rema on the song ‘Calm Down’ also won an award for the Top Afrobeats category.

The BBMAs are an exciting affair every year, signifying the rising stars and also the fading ones. This year’s installation, while the spotlight was stolen by Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen, will nonetheless go down in the history books.
