Suriya Starrer Kanguva Release Date Confirmed: Here's What We Know

Good news for Suriya fans- the much-awaited film Kanguva now has a release date. If you are wondering about Kanguva release date- it is now the 14th of November! The film's release has been delayed to prevent it from competing with Dasara, which will see the premiere of TJ Gnanavel's Rajinikanth-starring Vettaiyan. If the response to the Kanguva trailer is indicative of the audience’s response to this much-awaited movie, we are excited to see the reaction once it releases!

What’s special about the Kanguva cast?

Suriya will portray various characters in the film: a modern guy and a warrior tribesman. The producers played it close to heart, avoiding spoilers by not sharing anything about the plot of the picture beyond the first posters, which featured the actor in two roles. During the promotional materials for the film, both the teaser and the trailer highlighted the fight scenes between Suriya and Bobby Deol.

The return of Suriya to the big screen has been long anticipated by fans. Etharkkum Thunindhavan, released in 2022, was his most recent film appearance. Vikram, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Sarfira were his only further cameo appearances. Suriya is currently filming a film with Karthik Subbaraj in addition to Kanguva. Meiyazhagan, starring Aravind Swamy, and his brother Karthi both produced by him, so all Suriya fans can look forward to his upcoming projects!

Supposedly making her Tamil debut in August 2022, Disha Patani was partnered alongside Suriya. It was confirmed early in September 2022 that Patani was going to play this coveted role. Reportedly cast in late August for supporting parts include Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, and Anandaraj. That’s not all, expect more from the Kanguva cast! In September of that year, Ravi Raghavendra announced his involvement with the film, and in October, after filming his scenes in the film's second schedule, K. S. Ravikumar was said to be a cast member. Late in April of 2023, the famous actor B. S. Avinash (KGF) was cast. His announcement of participation came late in June.

The role of the major antagonist, played by Bobby Deol, who's making his Tamil debut, was cast around the end of July 2023. Deol signed up for the picture well in advance of Animal's release, and he has mentioned that he has never played any role yet like this character and he had to be proficient in Tamil, which was tough to acquire in only two months. At about the same time, Natarajan Subramaniam was cast as an adversary. Deol also had to transform for this role on camera. He mentioned that he had to wear a hairpiece, apply scars and use custom-made contact lenses for his character, which needed a lot of physical preparation!

Why was there a delay with the Kanguva release date?

The COVID-19 epidemic in India and the other obligations of both the actor and the director caused the project with Suriya and Siva, which had been announced in April 2019, to be cancelled. The film's rebranding as Suriya 42 took place in August 2022, and the main filming began the following month. It ran for seventeen months, ending in January 2024. The locations used for filming were Rajahmundry, Kodaikanal, Goa, Kerala, and Chennai. Nishadh Yusuf serves as editor, Devi Sri Prasad composes the score, and Vetri Palanisamy takes pictures. Produced at an expenditure of about ₹300-350 crore, Kanguva is among the priciest Indian films in history.

What can Suriya fans look forward to in Kanguva?

In Kanguva, Suriya will don thirteen distinct costumes. He was previously seen in 10 various looks in Ayan (2009), but this film will break that record. One of Suriya's looks for the periodic segments was designed by makeup artist Ranjith Ambady and his colleagues using influences from Apocalypto (2006). Suriya lost an additional five kilogrammes for the part he played in the movie.
