India at Paralympics this year has put up a remarkable performance. Having achieved their best-ever tally, the Indian Paralympic winners have been on roll, eyeing for glory this time. Winning five gold medals, nine silver medals and ten bronze medals till date, India in Paralympics has put up a top notch performance. With the Indian Paralympic medalists creating history, and moving way beyond their previous record of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020, India has surely put up its best ever performance. With exceptional talent and dedication from the side of the Indian Paralympic winners, India now stands at the 19th position in the overall standings at the game. Indian Paralympic winner, Sumit Antil put up an incredible performance at the Men’s Javelin throw F64 and won the gold medal in the category on September 2. This was India’s third gold medal in the Men’s Javelin throw with a record of 70.59 metres. Other all Paralympic winners of India in the athletics category include Nishad Kumar and Yogesh Kathuniya, who bagged the silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 category and Men’s Discus Throw F56 category respectively on September 3. Ajeet Singh Yadav earned the silver medal in the Javelin throw F46 category, Sharad Kumar won the silver medal in the High jump T63 category, and Sachin Khilari and Pranav Soorma also bagged silver medals in the Men’s shot put F46 category and Club throw F51 category respectively. Mariyappan Thangavelu and Sundar Singh Gurjar bagged the bronze medal in the Men’s high jump T63 category and Men’s javelin throw F46 category respectively, while Deepthi Jeevanji won the bronze medal in the Women’s 400 metres T20 category.

This year in the Paralympic games, India has won a total of four medals in the shooting category, with Indian Paralympic medalist, Avani Lekhara bagging the gold medal, and Mona Agarwal winning the bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1. Manish Narwal earned the silver medal in Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1, and Francis won bronze in the P2 Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1.

Putting up an incredible performance, representing India at Paralympics Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal in the para Badminton Men’s singles SL3 category. Later, on September 2, Thulasimathi Murugesan and Suhas Yathiraj bagged the silver medal in the Women’s Singles SU5 category and Men’s Singles SL4 category respectively. Manisha Ramadass won the bronze medal in the Women’s Singles SU5 event, and Nithya Sivan defeated Rani Marlina of Indonesia, winning the bronze in the Women’s Singles SH6 category.

Representing India in Paralympics, Harvinder Singh won the first-ever gold medal for the country in the para archery category on September 4, making a historic victory. He competed against and defeated Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek by 6-0. Indian Paralympic winners, Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar put up a nail-biting competition, ultimately bagging the bronze medal in the Mixed Team Compound category.

Paralympics 2024 is also the first time India qualified for Para-Judo with Kapil Parmar and Kokila Kaushiklate securing a spot on the basis of the International Blind Sports Federation Judo Rankings. Kapil Parmar has now become the first Para Judo player to win a medal for India with his bronze win against Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira with an ‘Ippon’ (10-0 margin). While he started his day with a win against Venezuela’s Dennis Marcos Blanco, in the next round he ended up losing to S. Banitaba Khorram Abadi of Iran. The Judoka competed in the J1 disability class, and prior to his Paralympic win, has also won Judo medals for India in the Commonwealth Games and IBSA Judo Grand Prix.
