'The Drishyam' franchise starring Mohanlal is all set to be remade in Hollywood, which marks an important milestone for the Malayalam film. Ever since the Hindi remake of the movie in 2015, the movie was predominantly recognised as an Ajay Devgn film rather than it being known as a movie led by Mohanlal.

Jeethu Joseph, director of the original Drishyam, has expressed joy regarding the rarest of the rare achievement of a Hollywood remake. He revealed, "As a filmmaker, I am extremely excited and happy that a film I created is being remade in Hollywood. The film deals with a universal subject. It is a story of family love and security, more than a crime thriller, which is why it has so much appeal among people of different languages."

Joseph also highlighted the universal themes of the film related to family, love and security in the movie emphasising its wide appeal among fans of different languages. The Hindi adaptation of Drishyam was directed by Nishikant Kamat and starred Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Tabu.

Tabu played the role of Meena in the Hindi version of the movie. It is worth noting that Panorama Studios has bought the international rights for the entire franchise starring Mohanlal. This acquisition surely highlights the global appeal of the story and the studio's interest in getting the film to a wider audience.

Panorama Studios will be collaborating with JOAT Films and Gulfstream Pictures for the international remake of the movie. The film has already been adapted in South Korea and China and now the English version will be created for Hollywood, according to Kumar Mangat Pathak, chairman and managing director, of Panorama Studios.

Kumar also said in a statement, “We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this story in English for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years.”

Abhishek Pathak who was the producer and had also directed the Hindi version of Drishyam 2 had said, “We have received immense love from our Indian audiences, who have made the Drishyam franchise a massive success. The strength of the movie lies in its story, and we want it to be enjoyed by audiences globally.”

Drishyam first released in Malayalam in 2013 and revolves around Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family who become subjects of suspicion after Varun Prabhakar, the son of a cop named Geetha Prabhakar goes missing. The film explores and dives deep into the complexities of the situation.
