Few things can compare to the buzz around a Rajinikanth film's release. With a career that has surpassed half a century, the celebrity has become a household name, rivalling Hollywood in size. Therefore, when a Rajinikanth film hits the theatres, the focus shifts from Rajinikanth's performance to the director's achievement of creating a "Superstar" film using contemporary filmmaking techniques. Lokesh Kanagaraj, the contemporary messiah of Tamil mass action film, plays the lead role in Coolie. Following the success of Leo, director Lokesh is poised to make a comeback, unafraid to take on multi-starrers.
Lokesh takes a page out of Thee and updates it to fit the star power of today's Rajinikanth. The 170-minute Coolie features flashbacks that show Rajinikanth as a young Deva, a port worker who defends his fellow workers; he also has a knack for marrying mass and realism, and he's famous for inventive fan service, which is essential for a Rajini film in the 2020s. This relieves Lokesh of the burden of trying to sell the character's past or re-establish Rajinikanth as the proletarian hero via screen time.

Coolie movie review
The brutal Dayalan (Soubin Shahir) runs a port for the criminal lord Simon (Nagarjuna Akkineni), who trades in high-end timepieces, and Coolie opens with a taste of Simon's tyrannical control over the port. There are rumours that there are more sheep like the one that was hung, which was an infiltration of the police. At the same time, we meet Deva, who is now the proud owner of a mansion. The celebrity, who now seems exhausted, commands your undivided attention. Our 74-year-young hero can't fight or dance like he used to, or so you thought! A close-up image in a mirror displays his ageing, and it dawns on you! In the opening theme tune, "Chikutu," our hero does a leg sweep while lying on the floor! Unfortunately, the close-ups show an obvious exhaustion on his face, which serves to heighten the tragedy of his character, Deva, who finds out too late that his closest buddy, Rajasekhar, had died of a heart attack.
The second half of Coolie makes the movie a hit. The movie seamlessly blends Rajinikanth's commanding presence on screen with thrilling drama and intense action scenes. As Deva goes back into a world of betrayal and power struggles, the story gets tighter, giving us thrilling fights and moments that make us want to scream. Rajini shows once again why he is the one and only superstar. His charm shines through in every scene, and his lines and action scenes get instant cheers. Emotional beats, especially those about friendship and loyalty, add heart to the show. The movie builds to a big ending that makes people feel both nostalgic and excited.
Coolie is a tribute to Rajinikanth's unique energy and presence on screen. It's best enjoyed in a theatre with your fellow Rajnikanth superfans!
