August movie releases in the theatres
War 2
First in the list of August 2025 movie releases happens to be War 2. Set to release on August 14, 2025, just in time for Independence Day weekend, War 2 has Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal. The story will pick up right where the previous instalment ended, with Kabir going rogue.
This pan-Indian extravaganza stars Kiara Advani as Kavya Luthra, who’s smoking our screens already in the trailer. Facing Roshan’s Kabir will be South cinema's rising star Jr. NTR, who is making his Hindi debut. The film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, features breathtaking stunts in six different nations, a brutal dance-off, and engrossing music by Pritam.
Coolie: The Powerhouse
War 2 isn’t the only of August new movies coming to your screens on the Independence Day weekend. Rajinikanth transforms into the enigmatic Deva, in this gritty action-thriller from master director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film happens to be his very first collaboration with the superstar, and has fans excited all over. The film promises a powerful punch of style, swag, and badass action as Rajinikanth battles a corrupt syndicate exploiting coolies in a port town. Oh, and did we mention it’s rated A, marking superstar Rajni’s most intense ride yet in 36 years? Simply sweet!
Param Sundari
In an interesting twist, Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Param Sundari will also be joining the list of August 2025 movie releases in the cinemas. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Maddock Films, Param Sundari blends North-Indian swag and South-Indian grace in a rom-com that’s both scenic and sassy.
Set against the backdrop of Kerala’s lush landscapes, this is the first outing of the lead couple, and Sidharth Malhotra’s first after becoming a dad. With its tracks already doing the rounds on social media, we can’t wait to see the love story on the big screen!

Suspicion reigns, and loyalty is hazy as Israel, Iran, and India all circle ominously. Is Rajeev a silent patriot shaping history, or a rogue blade? Only time will tell!
New series August brings
Butterfly
Butterfly is an intense character-driven spy thriller weaving together the shadows of global espionage and the fragility of family ties, all set to stream on Prime Video. Adapted from BOOM! Studios’ acclaimed graphic novels by Arash Amel, the series focuses on David Jung (Daniel Dae Kim), a mysterious and unpredictable former U.S. intelligence operative now living in South Korea.
For years, he’s been building his life carefully in the country, which unravels when the fallout from a fateful, impossible decision resurfaces. Hunted by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a ruthless, sociopathic young assassin, and targeted by Caddis, the dark spy organisation she serves, Jung must navigate a deadly game where loyalty and survival collide.
Saare Jahan Se Achha
It’s the Independence Day month, and this is one of the new series in August that’ll make you feel the emotions full throttle. Netflix’s pulse-pounding espionage thriller set against the tumultuous backdrop of the 1970s, this one is already added to our watchlist.
Pratik Gandhi anchors the story as Vishnu Shankar, a sharp-witted R&AW operative entrusted with a perilous mission to infiltrate enemy territory and sabotage a nuclear threat before it unfolds. With India and its adversaries locked in a deadly game of cat and mouse, every decision could redraw the fate of the two nations. Oh, and it is believed to be inspired by real events!
Court Kacheri
If you’re a fan of the small-town sagas, this courtroom drama streaming exclusively on Sony LIV will have you hooked. Crafted by TVF and directed by Little Things fame Ruchir Arun, it follows Param (Ashish Verma), a reluctant young man pushed into law by his formidable lawyer father, Harish Mathur (Pavan Malhotra).
Set amidst chaotic district court theatrics, the show also explores generational tensions, legacy burdens, and moral crossroads with a clever blend of satire and emotion. We’re already grabbing our buckets of popcorn.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty
If you’re a Koreaboo, well, this new series in August is perfect for you. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, streaming on Netflix every weekend starting August 23, 2025, is a fantasy-tinged historical romance that will make you hungry.
Picture this: Yeon Ji-yeong (Im Yoon-ah), a head-turning, French-trained chef at the peak of her game, suddenly time-slides half a millennium back to Joseon. There, she clashes, and may we say, sizzles with King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-min), a tyrannical monarch with a fearsome reputation and a sensitive palate. As palace politics, stolen glances, and culinary showdowns unfold, our chef turns dishes into diplomacy and maybe, just maybe, weaves love into history.
