Bollywood has a lot up its sleeve in the last month of the year. Not only are there releases starring some of the country’s biggest stars, but filmmakers are also ensuring that they deliver content that is interesting and engaging. Watch these movies in theatres or from the comfort of your homes. Rest assured, there’s something for everyone in December 2022.

Set sometime in the 1930s and 40s, Qala is a psychological drama about a young playback singer and her rise to stardom and fall from fame. After impressing audiences with her performance in Bulbbul, Triptii Dimri stars in Qala as the protagonist who starts losing her sense of reality with the arrival of a new rival. Directed by Anvita Dutt, Qala also marks the debut of the late actor Irrfan's son, Babil Khan.    

Releases December 1, 2022 on Netflix.

After delivering one of the biggest hits of this year in the form of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kartik Aaryan will be seen exploring his dark side in Freddy. Also starring Alaya F, the Shashanka Ghosh-directorial will see Aaryan as a shy and lonely dentist whose only friend is his pet turtle, Hardy. The spine-chilling trailer of the drama has already created quite a buzz with the actor’s fans looking forward to seeing him in a new avatar.

Ayushmann Khurana, who has become a genre in himself for starring in some of the most socially relevant films in recent times, will be seen in an action thriller along with Jaideep Ahlawat. The two talented actors are involved in a crazy cat-and-mouse chase that is sure to have some thrilling moments, as can be seen from the film’s trailer. While it doesn’t seem as if there is scope for any love interest in the film, Nora Fatehi and Malaika Arora can be seen in special song sequences.

One look at Madhur Bhandarkar’s movies and it’s easy to see that the filmmaker is inspired by reality. His latest film, India Lockdown, explores the after-effects of the pandemic. Starring Prateik Babbar, Shweta Basu Prasad, Aahana Kumra and Sai Tamhankar in lead roles, the film deals with issues such as migrant labourers returning to their native places and how people’s lives changed after the lockdown.

The trailer of the film Salaam Venky has been winning hearts ever since it dropped a few days ago. Directed by Revathi, the film sees Kajol’s character playing mother to a boy, played by Vishal Jathwa, who suffers from a muscular disorder. The movie also has a talented ensemble cast including Rajeev Khandelwal, Rahul Bose and Prakash Raj with a special guest appearance by Aamir Khan. Kajol and Aamir together on screen after so many years—now that’s reason enough to watch this movie.

Vadh brings two of Hindi cinema’s most talented veterans together onscreen for the first time. Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta star in a thriller that looks engaging from the word go. There is intrigue and unpredictability about what lengths the characters go to safeguard their interests. Written and directed by Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vadh promises to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

Vicky Kaushal proved his intensity and acting prowess right from his debut film Masaan but one can hardly recall when he last played a character that was all fun and masti. Well, Shashank Khaitan’s directorial is here to change that with Kaushal playing a happy-go-lucky choreographer who is stuck between his hot wife played by Bhumi Pednekar and his naughty girlfriend, played by Kiara Advani. To spice up matters further, there’s even a murder thrown in for good measure!

Director Rohit Shetty and actor Ranveer Singh are a combination that has resulted in the smash hit, Simmba. No wonder then, that their upcoming film Cirkus has generated a lot of buzz ever since it was announced. The trailer is yet to be out but reportedly, the Gully Boy actor will be seen in a double role in a story which is said to be based on the 1982 film Angoor.

The official remake of Spanish film Julia's Eye, Blurr marks Taapsee Pannu's foray as a producer under her banner Outsiders Films. The psychological thriller also stars Gulshan Devaiah and is helmed by Ajay Bahl of BA Pass fame. Earlier, Pannu has starred in Badla, which was a remake of the Spanish film The Invisible Guest.
