The 2024 People's Choice Awards got a mix of moving tributes, electrifying performances and Adam Sandler being Adam Sandler. The People's Choice Awards is a show that aims to recognise the best in TV, movies, music and pop culture. Voting had taken place in January. Barbie won big and took home the marquee movie award of the evening. Simu Liu, another Barbie star hosted the show. Indeed! There are many award shows but People's Choice Awards is one of the few where fans have the option of voting and choosing winners.
Jennifer Aniston pays tribute to Adam Sandler
The 2024 People Icon Award, the People's Choice lifetime achievement award went to none other than Adam Sandler. He was honoured at the People’s Choice Award with the Icon Award by longtime friend and Murder Mystery 2 co-star Jennifer Aniston. The actress showed a quick overview of Sandler's career, from his debut, comedies, dramas, music tours and everything else. Sandler came on the stage, accepted the award and gave a funny speech, thanking his friends, family, daughter, his wife Jackie and everyone who casted their vote for People's Icon.
Big night for Barbie fans
Barbie swept wins in gigantic categories like The Movie of the Year and The Comedy Movie of the Year. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie also took home the respective awards - Male and Female Movie Star of the year. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer just won an award for The Drama Movie Of The Year.
Grey's Anatomy, which is fan-favourite, won Show of the Year Award
Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short's Only Murders in the Building also won Comedy Show of the Year award. While Pedro Pascal won an award for Male TV Star of the Year, HBO’s The Last of Us also got an award for Drama Show of The Year.
On the music front, BTS' Jungkook won the Male Artist of the Year award along with K-pop stars, Stray Kids who received Group/Duo of the Year award. It was Taylor Swift who became the biggest winner of the award night by winning Female Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Social Celebrity of the Year. It was a special moment for her as even her boyfriend Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce went home with the Athlete of the Year award.
The highlight of the event was Ice Spice accepting her People's Choice for New Artist and thanking everyone. Following that, Kathryn Hahn came out to the stage to announce a music performance by Kylie Minogue. Then, Rachel Ziegler took home People's Choice in Action Movie Star for the Prequel of The Hunger Games. Pedro Pascal took the limelight by taking home the award for People's Choice for Male TV Star for The Last of Us.
As the night came close, the 2024 People's Choice Awards left an imprint on the hearts of those who saw it. It was a reminder of the power of choice and the unlimited love that people have for entertainment, globally.
