Travelling through time in one of the churches in Bangalore is like getting on the ever-moving nostalgia train. If you find yourself in this city, make it a point to see these magnificent cathedrals on your next vacation-

Holy Trinity Church

Among the numerous notable British imperial figures who have visited the chapel since its founding in 1852 are Winston Churchill and Lord Cornwallis. The majority of the churches in Bangalore have their origins as military chapels, serving as primary worship places for the families and officers of the British East India Company. Being a prominent Protestant church in the city, this particular church also happens to be the largest military church in all of South India. Now it stands as a significant landmark. The breathtaking carvings and engravings complement the church's Renaissance-style design. The marble murals on the wall are the most striking feature and a big draw for travellers. Still in use today are the majority of the church's fittings, including the baptismal, pulpit, and bell, all of which were transported from London during that time. There is always a regular flow of tourists since the church is beautiful from the inside and out.

St Mark's Cathedral

St. Mark's Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in Bangalore, having been in operation for almost two centuries. Saint Mark, also known as Mark the Evangelist, is one of the four gospel writers and the inspiration for the name of this movement. The fact that this cathedral once served as a garrison church for the officers of the Madras Army who were under the control of the East India Company is an intriguing piece of knowledge about it. The church, which is reminiscent of London's St. Paul's Cathedral from the 17th century, was constructed in an eye-catching colonial design. The entryway of this building is defined by elaborate carvings and woodwork. Set in a beautiful complex with gulmohar, umbrella trees, cassias, and temple lilies, St. Mark's Cathedral is an architectural marvel. The cathedral has, since its construction, also been renovated, along with many of the city's historic churches.

The Cathedral Church of St. Francis Xavier

The next on the list is Bangalore's Francis Xavier's Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church. Originating in 1851, it was rethought and eventually inaugurated in 1932 after the cross from the church's tower collapsed in 1905. St. Francis Xavier's Church was chosen as the cathedral of the newly founded diocese of Bangalore in 1940, which split off from the diocese of Mysore. A huge dome, shaped like a cross, sits atop the sanctuary of this granite church. During the 2009 platinum jubilee festivities, two more domes, one white and one blue, were erected. These domes enhance the church's attractiveness and give it a European appearance. Huge Christmas festivities take place at Francis Xavier's Cathedral.

St. Patrick's Church

Situated on Brigade Road, a key business zone and one of the city's main retail areas, is this church. Yet, this particular church happens to be among the city's oldest Roman Catholic houses of worship. Constructed in 1844, St. Patrick's Church is renowned for its exquisite architecture. Near the arched entryway, twelve lovely pillars honour the twelve apostles of Christ. As an element of the stunning architecture, the pillars and arching roof provide an exquisite sight. Beside the main entrance is a shrine to St. Anthony; it is said that by praying at this shrine, one might escape all their troubles and anxieties. Impressive architecture aside, the church grounds are serene and tranquil, making them an ideal spot for contemplation. Despite the church's prime location in the middle of a bustling metropolis, the stresses of the outside world appear to fade away as soon as one steps inside.
