In a sea of designers, Delhi-born and brought-up Gaurav stands out with his origami-inspired haute couture. Big on structure and high on concepts, his designs have fans in celebrities all around the world. Whether that be Beyonce, who wore a neon green Gaurav Gupta saree for her Atlanta leg of the Renaissance World Tour, or the one-shoulder linear cosmic Gaurav Gupta saree gown that Alia Bhatt recently won as L’oreal announced her as the latest brand ambassador, Gaurav’s outfits shine bright.
Alumni of NIFT, and Central Saint Martins, Gaurav Gupta is also one of the first, and only Indian designers to be invited to show at the Paris Couture Week.
1. Janhvi Kapoor
She’s promoting her next release, and simultaneously serving looks after looks. 2. Alia Bhatt
Paris Fashion Week has started, and L’oreal has been one of the biggest names involved. Alia Bhatt, who was announced as one of the new global brand ambassadors, walked the runway with others like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Cara Delvigne, Kendall Jenner, and Eva Longoria, wearing a custom made silver breast plate, adorened with swan’s head interwoven with a body of a serpent which her stylist Priyanka Kapadia paired with black sharara trousers.
3. Kim K
This Gaurav Gupta outfit is a much loved one, irrespective of how and where is it worn. One of the first ones was Kim K at the Ambani wedding. The Hollywood siren went with massive emeralds that complimented the beautiful flame red skirt set so well, and then, a few months later, Ashley Park’s character Mindy was seen wearing it in a scene from Emily In Paris S4.
While Kim went for a bold, statement look, Ashley’s take on the outfit was more casual while still glam. We can’t decide which look we like better, the outfit however? We love!
4. Priyanka Chopra Jonas
A fun take on Gaurav Gupta designer sarees was what Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore to Bvlgari’s Roman Holi party in Mumbai earlier this year. Called the Athena blush saree gown, this was a beautiful melange of the two silhouettes, and the peachy pink tones went very well with Chopra’s exquisite Bvlgari set.
5. Kareena Kapoor Khan
The designer’s love affair with structural influences is quite old, and whether it is a bold Gaurav Gupta saree or a sharp gown like Kareena Kapoor Khan wore as the showstopper for Gaurav Gupta X Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale 2021, the outfits never fail to garner praise. The glam makeup the actress wore complimented the outfit well, and updo further highlighted the structural beauty.
6. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Festival de Cannes red carpets are often a fashion extravaganza, and given that she is a L’Oreal brand ambassador, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is seen gracing the events and galas each year. One of our favourites was this custom Gaurav Gupta gown that the actress looked stunning in. Very aptly titled The Venus Structure, this was a Gaurav Gupta look that we’ll muse over for a long time.
7. Sobhita Dhulipala
While she has so many Gaurav Gupta saree looks that serve fashion inspo, Sobhita Dhulipala in Infinity white corset that she paired with draped dhoti trousers, for an event for her film Monkey Man was just perfection. If you want something on the lines of a pearl saree but fusion, this corset dhoti pants combo is just what you need. We love that the actress went for an updo that let the outfit shine.
As much as we loved Sobhita's engagement look, this is another that we can't help but marvel at.
