Inflammation is often cast as the villain in conversations surrounding health. It is something that is blamed for every health issue, starting from joint pains, to heart diseases and autoimmune disorders. Something that appears as subtle, and often invisible, chronic inflammation in the body quietly damages tissues over time. Inflammation explained 

Inflammation is the body’s built-in alarm and repair system. A complex and finely tuned process that activates whenever our tissues are injured or under threat, it is through inflammation that our body reacts to any disturbance. Whether sparked by an infection, a cut, or exposure to harmful substances, inflammation is the body’s immediate response to protect and heal. It sends waves of immune cells to the affected area, creating the familiar signs of redness, heat, swelling and pain. However, beyond these visible inflammation symptoms lies a powerful defense mechanism that works tirelessly to neutralize danger, clear out damaged cells, and begin the healing process. While short term, or acute inflammation is essential for recovery, problems begin to arise when this response lingers or misfires, turning into chronic inflammation that quietly fuels a host of diseases. In such cases inflammation takes the role of both a guardian, and potentially that of a hidden saboteur of our health. 

Common symptoms of inflammation 

  1. Swelling- Swelling is among the most common inflammation symptoms. Fluid and immune cells accumulate in the tissues, which leads to a visible puffiness or bloating.
  2. Pain- Chemical signals from the immune system irritate the nerves, which in turn triggers discomfort and tenderness.
  3. Loss of function- An inflammation symptom offer occurs in the form of loss of function. It results in limited mobility or limited performance in the affected part of the body.
  4. Fatigue- The body’s energy gets diverted to the immune response, which leaves you feeling constantly tired in case of chronic inflammation.
