Neck and back pain have become a common concern for many, considering the amount of time we spend in front of the screen – be it for work, study, or plain ol’ binge-watching. The result? Bad body posture, among other health issues.
The good news is that there are simple exercises/stretches to help you ease that pain and ensure you have a good body posture.
The backbends in ushtrasana help restore the natural flexibility of the spine and stretch chest muscles. This helps by relieving stress and lengthening the spine.
Ananda balasana lengthens and stretches out the spine, hips and neck, and helps alleviate fatigue and stiffness.
One of Malaika Arora’s favourite stretches, this helps ease stress by targeting one’s spine, lower back, and neck. It lengthens and strengthens the back and neck, which helps improve posture.
Practising triangle pose aka trikoasana can strengthen the nerves on one’s shoulders, neck, waist, and chest. It is great for neck pain relief as it loosens the vertebrae in the neck region and improves blood circulation.
Practising a full range of motion with your neck can help ease neck and shoulder pain, apart from helping to improve posture. This involves turning your head sideways, lifting your chin, and performing deep breathing.
Practising reclining twist aka natrajasana while lying on a yoga mat involves stretching your hands, legs, and neck. This exercise promotes muscle flexibility and may help relieve back and neck pain.
