The category is whimsy, glitter and silhouettes! Oscar's 2026 fashion was intentional, fluid, and had…florals. Here is our report card of the Oscars red carpet—from best performer to needs improvement. Continue reading for the full report.

Oscars 2026 fashion rundown

Many famous faces from Hollywood, unsurprisingly, saved their most elegant gowns for the 98th Academy Awards, where they arrived in their most dazzling gowns. The Academy Awards wouldn't be the Oscars without some flash and glamour. While classic glamour—think sharp suits and exquisite gowns, two ever-present stalwarts on the Oscars red carpet—was undeniably prevalent, there were a handful of outfits that felt a little more contemporary, unexpected, and exciting.

No surprises here—the Best Actress nominees delivered a slew of memorable performances. With its intricate floral embroidery and strapless black Dior dress by Jonathan Anderson, Rose Byrne went for a classic, glamorous look. (The style was inspired by an item from Anderson's most recent haute couture collection for spring 2026.) Grace Kelly inspired Jessie Buckley's delicate, beautiful off-the-shoulder Chanel gown, which she wore in a colour-blocking pattern of pink and red. Elle Fanning opted for a strapless white Givenchy gown designed by Sarah Burton, which had elements of both Grace Kelly and wedding style—in the best conceivable manner. Although most of the dresses had full skirts, some, like Amy Madigan, who won best supporting actress, wore suits instead, particularly an embellished Dior jacket that shimmered under the lights.

For menswear, Hudson Williams, who stars in Heated Rivalry, wore a sharp black tuxedo by Balenciaga, accessorised with a collared shirt and a brooch in the same tone. Joe Alwyn accessorised his handmade black Valentino suit with a bow tie that he wore loosely, adding an irreverent touch. Like Pedro Pascal, who wore a white collared shirt and a huge chrysanthemum corsage instead of a jacket, the Hollywood gents were all about defying standard menswear conventions slightly.

The award for ruffling some feathers goes to..

Feathers have taken flight on the Oscars’ red carpet, and who better than the two icons of sartorial charm to take this award home tonight—Demi Moore and Teyana Taylor! Tyla once said, "put me in Chanel!, and Taylor ran with it!  Teyana combined her black-and-white whimsical creation by Chanel designer Matthieu Blazy with Tiffany & Co. jewels, and she looked absolutely lovely. When was the last time Chanel looked this good?!

Demi Moore's Gucci ensemble was the epitome of understated elegance, striking yet subtle. This Gucci and Boucheron ensemble was one for the books!

The award for if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it fashion goes to…

Almost everyone at Oscars! Everyone opted for classic Old Hollywood silhouettes, such as the 50s blowout and similar styles. But some looks definitely stuck out to me! Kate Hudson takes the cake for looking absolutely stunning in a mint Armani Prive with side-swept hair and minimal sparkly jewellery!

I also like Elle Fanning's look. Fanning accessorised her stunning Givenchy by Sarah Burton gown with a necklace by the renowned jeweller Cartier, which dates back to 1903. She has been acting for a while, but as a first-time Oscar nominee, she truly shone tonight.

Rose Byrne added whimsy to her take on Old Hollywood glam! The way Kate Young adorned Rose Byrne in this Jonathan Anderson for Dior ensemble, accessorised with Taffin jewelry was impeccable—she exuded an air of effortless elegance that was all her own.

The award for asking your tailor to make your favourite dress in all the colours goes to..

Kylie Jenner! Who knew Miss Self-Made Billionaire (cough) and I have a lot in common—and that is terrorising my tailor to make the same boatneck kurti for me in all colours. Except Kylie’s dress is from Schiaparelli, and she has a few more billions in her bank than I do (for now). Jenner made an appearance at the 2026 Oscars as Timothée Chalamet's date, who was nominated for best actor.

Her Schiaparelli bodycon gown, a glossy cherry-red rendition of a style she wore in 2023, was instead debuted on Instagram, instead of the back entrance of the Dolby Theatre, as had been her usual practice at nearly all ceremonies since she began accompanying her "life partner" on the awards circuit. The video may have been the most effective public relations campaign for Chalamet since he casually mentioned the plight of ballet and opera!

The award for the couple most likely to match the curtains, carpet, and each other goes to…

Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams, of course! At the BAFTAs, Mescal and Abrams were a duo, and they're on it again. Abrams sported a seductive two-piece by Chanel—plus Chanel high jewelry—while Mescal sported a wonderful reiteration of the classic black suit by Celine, complete with a cardigan-style jacket.

The Pedro Pascal Award for refusing to show up in yet another black tux goes to…

Pedro Pascal—shocker! To everyone's surprise (not mine, to be honest), the man who looked the sharpest tonight wasn't even nominated; he wasn't even sporting a menswear label. With a Chanel watch and glasses, Pascal sported a unique Blazy-designed Chanel ensemble! Once again, this season, the brand is far ahead of the competition.

The award for reminding us why Sinners has a clean sweep this awards season goes to..

Michael B. Jordan! That man showed up in a sherwani-style suit that was impeccably styled! The Sinners duo Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan,  donned Louis Vuitton on the red carpet at the Oscars, which is a beautiful touch of harmony. A very fitting wallet chain was the finishing touch for MBJ's outfit, which included a military jacket, slim-legged pants, and buttons rimmed with gold.

The award for “Florals For Spring? Actually Groundbreaking!” goes to…

Anne Hathaway—for me, she was the best-dressed person at the Oscars! Anne Hathaway's stunning black gown from Valentino's haute couture collection stole the show at the 2026 Academy Awards. A wide belt drew the waist in, and the strapless dress was patterned with flowers. The actor accessorised with velvet gloves and a pair of earrings, and a necklace from the new Bvlgari Eclettica High Jewellery collection. Miranda Priestly would be proud.
