Fashionwise, 2024 was a very interesting mix of trends. 2024 fashion saw millennials opting for comfy wear, Gen Z bringing back Y2K, and the smaller fashion trends this year changed nearly every month, making sure there was something new in focus every now and then. There was also a great focus on understanding the sustainability metrics of what ends up in our wardrobe, and yet making sure one looks trendy! Out of these countless fashion trends this year, there were some that we absolutely loved.
1. Flat-heeled Mary Janes
One of the biggest fashion trends of 2024 was the flat-heeled Mary Janes, and no matter what your budget is, we bet there’s a brand doing a version of these. Quite appropriately so, for we had all been quite tired of strutting around in heels and needed a softer, casual pair of footwear to go with all the other 2024 fashion trends. What better than Mary Janes! Classic, comfy, and oh-so chic.
2. Vests
This started as a Spring trend, but quickly ended up staying the entire year. And business core in general was one of the most loved fashion trends this year. Especially as more and more of them join the working population, Gen Z dressing style reflects business pieces but with an edge. Vests were a great example of this. As easily as they can be paired with denims for a casual look, so can they be incorporated into business attire.
3. Leopard print
You can’t expect Y2K to make a comeback and leopard print not be a part of it! It was, however, much muted this time. Instead of the overall leopard print, fashion trends this year had the bright print in accessories, and even if they made it to Gen Z clothes style, it was always a single clothing. The idea is to incorporate leopard print somewhere in the looks, and not it be the whole look.
4. Brown footwear and accessories
This is one of the fashion trends for millennials that we say coming from a mile away. First it was all black, then it became taupe and nude footwear and accessories. Finally, when the fashion trends this year demanded something neutral and yet chic, emerged the winner, brown. Whether it is polished brown loafers or boots, brown footwear was all the rage this year. This was also a major men’s fashion 2024 trend, where they moved from other neutrals to sophisticated brown formal shoes.
5. Midi skirts
This is another of the fashion trends for millennials that made it big this year. Midi skirts, comfortably paired with sneakers like Adidas Samba, which in their own right amassed quite a fan following this year, were perfect for casual outings. On the formal sides, boots and Mary Janes kept the look fun and yet polished. As far as tops were concerned, 2024 fashion had us pairing the midi skirts with plain white tees in the hotter months, and chunky knitted sweaters in the winters.
6. Classic sneakers
This is not one of the fashion trends this year, this is a fashion trend every year, and yet we don’t see ourselves getting bored of it. This year however was a little different because instead of the sneakerheads who are obsessed with scoring their favourite kicks, finding a classic but very wearable pair was a Gen Z fashion trend. Leading the pack was Adidas Samba, but Puma Palermo, Onitsuka Tigers, and New Balance 574 were closely following. With bigshots like Bela Hadid being spotted in Sambas and Dua Lipa in Speedcats, it had to make it to the biggest fashion trends of 2024.
7. Corset blouses
When it comes to Indian wear fashion trends of 2024, corset blouses was one of the, if not the biggest! The corset blouses are oh so classy, and yet so sultry, making them perfect to be paired with lehengas at a friend’s wedding and also with a saree to a soiree. Designer Manish Malhotra’s Diwali party saw a lot of celebs clad in a variety of corset blouses, but on the internet side of things, the Gen Z fashion trend was more of a classy brocade option.
8. The power of red
We could have called it one of the biggest fashion trends this year, but you know it, and we know it, red is here forever and never gets out of trend. 2024 fashion was no different. A variety of celebs also did their bit in making it even more glamorous, but on the runways as well as boutiques across the country, the demand for bright red was as high as ever. From 2024 beauty trends like red lips, and then Tiktok’s viral red nail theory, and red Mary Janes all over Insta feeds, safe to say, red was easily 2024’s it colour.
