Comfort is a key aspect of clothing, and it is key on your wedding day too. So, why should grooms be left behind? To enjoy your wedding, you can add an element of fun and blend street style with your traditional clothes. We speak to experts who weigh in on how to achieve this look.

1. A pop of fashion

Swap out your dull black or grey blazers for some vibrant colours like yellow, pink or light blue. Adding some embroidered patches will up the blazer's glam aspect even more. “Wear something more colour and baggy pants or pair a summer jacket or blazer with a simple white t-shirt,” suggests Jayesh Shah, Founder, Jayesh Shah Label. “The one thing you must keep in mind when picking out your blazer is to match the colour scheme to the time of year and the climate. Think Kanye - to suiting, think Johannes Huebl - if you have the guts to go all neutral. It plays well on everything from streetwear to runway. It’s equal parts street style and runway,” says Jayesh.

Co-ords are popular right now, so invest in some all-printed suits that will look great at your friend's sangeet celebration. “You can also make the most of a pool party by bringing some style with you. Wear a patterned, casual, and cosy co-ord. The tone can be set with a straightforward pair of mules or slides and have a few buttons undone. Add a few more accessories, including bracelets, rings, and sunglasses, to complete the outfit,” adds Shah.

2. Sneakers are fun

Select a dapper suit and pair it with your preferred footwear to create the best-looking street style. Anuj Nevatia, Co-founder, Bacca Bucci, avers, “There is truly nothing as comfortable as a pair of sneakers to have you grooving at your own wedding party. The range of sneakers available in India now is comfortable, fun, and stylish. From zardozi and embroidery work to fun caricatures and loud colours, the groom can have everything on his wedding sneakers. That means you don’t have to switch from your mojari, to have the best of both worlds, when the party gets going."

3. Jacket on

When selecting an outfit for a formal occasion, bomber jackets aren't the first thing that come to mind. But they can make the ideal formal outfit when worn with a sophisticated, cropped-at-the-ankle pair of trousers and a shirt. Make sure to keep the colours neutral to offer a little more detail. Siddharth R Dungarwal, Founder, Snitch, says, “Add a modish look to your wedding wardrobe with an uber-stylish printed Roman Paisley Black Printed Jacket. This luxe paisley print in an upgraded silhouette will add a wedding feel to the shaadi attire.”

4. Athleisure rules

Every groom today wants to not only look traditional but incorporate the cool quotient within their looks. “Doing an athleisure-esque travel jacket or a t-shirt inside a bandhgala with comfortable stretch jersey pants now becomes a part of designing a groom’s wardrobe. Interestingly, street-style jackets, twill tapes, trims, and accessories, as well as incorporating cooler street-style design quotients into a groom’s wardrobe have become the prevailing trend. Combining your bandhgala with joggers, wearing a cool t-shirt inside your tuxedo jacket or even making the pants under your sherwani in a fully stretch fabric are some ways in which you can incorporate street style into your wardrobe,” says Nivedita, fashion entrepreneur, Nivedita Luxe Pret and Couture.

5. Colour pop

Today a lot of grooms are choosing to express their individuality and taste in their wedding attire. “Pairing sneakers with kurtas or just plimsolls being exchanged for formal oxfords. The modern groom wants to express himself. Men have also become open to the idea of prints and experimental colours. Our line ikat and bandhani kurtas in colours like marigold orange, deep firoza and rani pink are huge hits,” says Gurinder Gulati, Co-founder, Qbik.

6. Casual call

This season's wedding collections grapple with shifting tides, where street-style casual is integrated into the traditional festive wedding attires to create a complete trailblazing look for the groom on his special days. Ravi Gupta, Creative Director, Gargee Designer's explains, “Menswear for the wedding festivities has begun moving towards a more casual style. Grooms are interestingly opting for denim with varied kurtas to keep up with the trend, primarily for the haldi ceremony. And getting down to casual printed or embellished bandh galas, jackets, or waistcoats for the semi-formal occasions of mehendi and family dinners during the wedding celebrations. A fun tie, a pocket square, or festive socks to dress up their outfit are the accessories that come to the rescue for the groom to level up their style quotient.”
