From solar schools to eco-offices, discover India’s most innovative green buildings leading the way in sustainable design and smart living.

'Green' buildings are those that have little to no detrimental effect on our climate and the environment throughout their design, construction, and operation, and even have the potential to improve things. Precious natural resources are preserved and our quality of life is enhanced by green construction. Here are the best sustainable buildings in India that have been certified by recognised bodies, along with a short description of each.

Sustainable buildings in India- here’s the best in India!

Suzlon One Earth, Pune

A green building with an emphasis on energy efficiency, rainwater harvesting, and trash management is the Suzlon One Earth in Pune. Its eco-friendly design is a result of its use of sustainable materials and methods. Christopher Charles, an architect based in Pune, designed this unique workplace, which achieved a LEED Platinum certification in 2010. He and his business partner devised the idea of "Office in the garden" to pique our interest. Among the first buildings in India to get LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, this awe-inspiring construction spans a whopping ten acres and is among the country's greatest green building projects. This is one of the best sustainable architecture buildings in India!

All of Suzlon One Earth's energy comes from renewable sources, both on and off site. Off-site wind turbines provide the remaining energy requirement; the 18 hybrid wind turbines on campus account for 7% of the overall usage. In order to minimise the need of artificial lighting, the building is constructed to maximise the amount of natural light that may enter. The campus's infrastructure is built to facilitate water percolation, which in turn controls stormwater runoff and helps raise the water table.

Infosys Campus, Mysore

Sustainability and environmental friendliness were key design principles in Infosys's Mysuru facility. Rainwater collection, solar power production, and trash recycling are some of the campus characteristics. A focus on energy efficiency and sustainability went into its design. This breathtaking green building in the city of palaces is the third Infosys structure to get a Platinum certification, bringing the total size of Infosys's certified buildings to 780,000 square feet. A comprehensive approach to sustainability was considered during the construction of the 5-story building in five critical areas: sustainable site planning, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Energy consumption is reduced by 40% due to the clever mechanism and efficient equipment. This is one of the best sustainable buildings in India!

ITC Green Centre, Gurugram

X/Indian Green Building Council

The ITC Green Centre is an environmentally conscious business facility. Features like water-efficient fixtures, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and recycled materials are all part of it. Environmental preservation was a primary consideration throughout the building's design process. Its high-efficiency machinery cuts water use by 40 per cent and energy usage by 53 per cent compared to a typical building. The structure is built of fly-ash concrete and bricks. Additionally, the building has a number of environmentally friendly elements, such as solar thermal technology, a stormwater management system, reflective high-albedo roof paint, minimum outside lighting, and separate smoking rooms with exhaust systems. Truly one of the best sustainable architecture buildings of India!

Infinity Benchmark, Kolkata

This 20-story, 5,60,000-square-foot edifice became the seventh building in the world to get the LEED Platinum certification at the time of its inauguration. There are sensors to measure carbon dioxide levels, a system to recycle wastewater, a humidification control system, and rainwater collection in the building. A brick wall block makes up the building's facade, while a thick polyurethane foam deck serves as the roof to improve insulation. The air quality within the building is maintained via CO2 monitoring sensors and clever humidification controllers. Brick wall blocks make up the outside walls of the structure, while thick polyurethane foam is used beneath the roof deck to improve insulation. The facility uses energy-efficient technology, a waste water recycling system, and electric automobiles as part of its environmentally friendly approach. A true inspiration and a brilliant example of sustainable architecture building of India!

CRISIL House, Mumbai

One of India's greenest business complexes, CRISIL House has fourteen gardens inside the property. Seventy percent of the building's floor space is illuminated by natural light streaming in via the atrium, which is surrounded by recycled construction materials. By switching to more energy-efficient lights at night, we can lessen our impact on the environment. Power consumption has been cut by 40% with the aid of the natural lighting technology. Truly one of the best sustainable buildings in India!

Wipro Campus, Noida

This Wipro Campus is a green building that has been certified by IGBC (which is a subset of USGBC) and has a Platinum rating from LEED. The inverted cone serves as the building's focal point and is placed at the intersection of two roads in order to maximise visibility. An important feature of the structure is a landscape courtyard that is both regulated. The courtyard, which is exposed to the sky, will help keep the building cool in the summer. Natural light floods all of the open office areas because they face the courtyard.
