The wildly successful Maddock horror comedy universe
Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), Munjya (2023), and Stree 2 (2024) are the films that launched the Maddock horror-comedy world. The first love tale in the franchise, Thama, will be the first film in the fifth instalment. The first look at the forthcoming Bollywood horror-comedy Thama has been revealed by Maddock Films. The creators posted a teaser on social media, promising to captivate audiences with the first love story in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe this Diwali. Just one day after Thama's first looks were shown, the video has arrived. Posters and the trailer for the film allude to a "bloody love story.". Ayushmann Khurrana, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Rashmika Mandanna were among the leads featured in a series of posters released by the production company on Monday. We are so excited for Ayushman Khurana’s latest movie!
Thama trailer and audience reactions
So how did the trailer fare? Softly, the teaser begins with Ayushmann and Rashmika exchanging sweet words. Will you be able to live a hundred years without me? Ayushmann wonders. "Not even for a moment," Rashmika says in response. Nevertheless, the upbeat mood quickly changes. Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes an appearance as the terrifying antagonist, Rashmika starts wailing, and the mood becomes creepy. The posters are also helping the new characters to capture the audience’s curiosity. Showing an eager expression, the posters wrote, "Presenting Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok – Insaaniyat ki aakhri umeed." After that, there emerged yet another enigmatic poster for Rashmika Mandanna's "Tadaka – Roshni ki ek hi paheli kiran". The Animal actress wears a bold costume and makes a strong facial expression.
Thama cast- what to know
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for his negative roles, will play the role of "Yakshasan – Andhere ka badshah". The billboard depicts the actor with long hair radiating a wicked spirit. The producers have also released Paresh Rawal's official photo in his role as Mr Ram Bajaj Goyal, who is described as "someone who always tries to find tragedy in comedy." According to their statement, theatres worldwide will showcase a violent love tale this Diwali. Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, and Aditya Sarpotdar, known for Munjya, produce Thama under the banner of Maddock Films. Niren Bhatt, Arun Fulara, and Suresh Mathew are the authors of this new horror comedy from Maddock! The release date of Thama is set for Diwali 2025.
What to expect from Thama
A "bloody love story," Thama is the first romantic comedy set in Maddock's horror-comedy world. Coming to screens this Diwali, the film promises an entertaining mix of romance, scary plot twists, and dark comedy. Thama, starring Ayushmann, is about a historian who is looking into the origins of vampires in Indian legend. The story takes place in both ancient Vijayanagar and contemporary India. Geeta Agrawal, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Faisal Malik are the other members of the stellar cast. A tale of gore, tragedy, and a hauntingly lovely love tale is hinted at in the trailer.
The Maddock films' horror comedy universe – so far
Maddock Films has made a lot of unexpected hits in the last few years that have changed the way Bollywood thinks about horror and comedy. The studio started using Indian folklore in 2018's Stree, which was a sharp mix of scares, humour, and social commentary. Bhediya (2022) looked at shape-shifters in the Northeast, and Munjya (2023) looked at myths and mischief from Konkan legends. Each movie had a new creature and a different story. Stree 2 (2024) went back to the story that started it all, showing that there is still a lot of fear and laughter to be found in local legends.
Now, Thama, which comes out on Diwali 2025, is the franchise's first romantic horror-drama. Instead of using the same characters and settings over and over again, it introduces a whole new set of characters and settings while still keeping the brand's signature mix of supernatural thrills and dark humour. The movie hints at a violent, heartbreaking love story set against a folk background, mixing chills with emotion. Maddock keeps reinventing its horror-comedy brand by avoiding repetitive storylines and exploring new myths and tones. This keeps fans excited for each new instalment, which promises new characters, new fears, and a unique experience.
