Saudi Arabia Gears Up For FIFA 2034 With Ambitious Floating Stadium In Neom

All set to host FIFA World Cup 2034, Saudi Arabia has gone all out, even announcing a floating stadium in Neom. Here's all we know about the project.

Some countries remain grounded in their construction of stadiums. Riyadh is planning to launch one into the sky. A "sky stadium" 350 meters above the desert floor, part of Neom's sci-fi illusion called The Line, has been proposed by the Kingdom following its successful bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Indeed, the Neom stadium resembles a scene from a dystopian video game trailer. Shiny, futuristic, and defying gravity—it's like a hat trick for architecture, if you will!

Saudi Arabia’s floating stadium- what is it exactly?

NEOM Stadium is an upcoming multi-use venue in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, situated on The Line. Group stage, round of 32, round of 16, and quarterfinal matches will be held in this stadium, which has a projected capacity of 46,010 spectators, during the 2034 FIFA World Cup. We expect to build the stadium between 2027 and 2032. Renewable energy sources will power the entire structure, and autonomous pods and high-speed elevators will facilitate access. It's like a cross between a very expensive air conditioner and Blade Runner.

Soaring above, NEOM Stadium will rise 350 meters (1,150 ft) above the earth. It will serve as the focal point of a sports-oriented area and integrate cutting-edge technology. The university and the health and wellness district will be on the other side of the stadium. At the site, you may ride in style on an all-electric trolley. The Line's professional football teams will call the stadium home both during and after the World Cup.

Planning to watch FIFA 2034? Here are the host cities!

When it comes to the 2034 World Cup, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, will take centre stage- making places to visit in Riyadh a must add to your itinerary list! The King Salman International Stadium, with a capacity of 92,000, will host both the first and last matches. The New Murabba Stadium and Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium are two more municipal venues. Even if you are visiting pre FIFA, these are one of the most fascinating places to visit in Riyadh!

Along with other plans outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, the construction of these stadiums will help turn Riyadh into a world-class sports metropolis. The kingdom boasts numerous diverse locations, such as Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and NEOM. King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and the Jeddah Central Development Stadium will host the matches in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah, which is located on the shore of the Red Sea. This provides a fascinating view with a sunset that blushes in the endless horizon- making this one of the best places to visit in Jeddah!

Al Khobar, in the Eastern Province, is where Aramco Stadium will be situated. Abha, in the southwest region of the Kingdom, is home to King Khalid University Stadium, one of the stadiums. This takes place in the Tabuk Province in Saudi Arabia's northwest, on the shore of the Red Sea, where the new megacity NEOM is being planned. The NEOM Stadium, a marvel of cutting-edge architecture and engineering, will be located in this future metropolis.

The selection of these locations was based on the desire to showcase Saudi Arabia's dynamic culture and dedication to sustainable development while simultaneously providing spectators and teams with an engaging and varied experience. The incorporation of NEOM, which is still in the planning stages, demonstrates the nation's dedication to holding events in cutting-edge, environmentally friendly locations.
