INGREDIENTS

  • For Appalam

    • 1 cup Urad Dal Flour

    • salt as per taste

    • hing

    • 1 tsp baking soda

    • water as required

  • For Appalam Kuzhambu

    • 2 tbsp gingelly oil

    • 2-3 dry red chillies

    • 2 tbsp chana dal

    • 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds

    • 1 tsp mustard seeds

    • curry leaves

    • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp

    • 1 tbsp sambar powder

    • salt to taste

PREPARATION

    In a bowl mix urad dal flour, salt, hing, baking soda and water to make a dough

    Beat the dough using a rolling pin and apply some gingelly oil.
  3. 3

    Cut the dough into small pieces and make papad using papad press.

    Dry the appalams in the sun for 6-7 days.
  5. 5

    Heat oil in a pan and add dry red chillies, chana dal, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves to it.

    Break appalam into pieces by hand, put them in the pan and toss so that all ingredients mix well.

    Add some water, tamarind pulp, salt and sambar powder to the pan, mix well and cook till it comes to a boil.
