Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, very recently took to her Instagram stories to share that her much raved about restaurant, Bastian Bandra will now be closing. The news came like a shocker to her fans who have loved being at the posh Mumbai restaurant. From influencers to food connoisseurs alike, Bastian Bandra has received nothing but praise ever since its conception. For the common folk, it had been an aspirational spot, and for Bollywood celebs, the comfort hangout spot. Sadly, the Bandra outlet will be closing its doors this week, with a final feast to be hosted on 4th September 2025.
The actress said, “This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai's most iconic destinations — BASTIAN BANDRA. A venue that gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city's nightlife now takes its final bow,”
It is a relief for the fans however that her other restaurant in the city, Bastian at the Top will still be functional, “To honour this legendary space, we're curating a very special evening for our closest patrons — a night filled with nostalgia, energy, and magic, celebrating everything Bastian has stood for one last time. While we say goodbye to BASTIAN BANDRA, our Thursday night ritual Arcane Affair will continue next week at BASTIAN AT THE TOP, carrying forward the legacy in a brand-new chapter with brand new experiences.”
All about Bastian
Bastian quickly rose to prominence after foraying into Mumbai's dining scene in 2016. Co-owned by Shilpa Shetty, one of biggest Bollywood stars turned entrepreneurs, and Ranjit Bindra, the hospitality bigwig, the restaurant quickly became famous as a seafood-focused haven with its dishes like butter-poached lobster and truffle mac & cheese sparking a passion for fine dining. It has been more than just a restaurant. All these years, it has been a plush eatery for celebrities, foodies, and trend-setters, solidifying Bastian's position as a major player in Mumbai's culinary world.
Culinary prowess at Bastian
Bastian has had foodies drooling over the menu all this while, and you’d have to give credit to the team behind every amazing meal, and Bastian clearly had the best. Post the relaunch in 2023, Chef Suvir Saran and his team regularly produced amazing dishes and maintained flawless service. Every flavour on your plate was carefully crafted, from iconic sweets that almost beg to be posted to your social media to seafood fare that patrons absolutely loved.
Bastian’s lovely interiors
Bastian has been a delight not just for foodies but also for lovers of a fine dine experience with a view. Whether it is the interiors, or the cityscape, Bastian has had some of the best views when it comes to plush restaurants in Mumbai. The restaurant, post its 2023 move, went multilevel, and the magnificence was unmatched. Stylish lighting, unique art, and décor that exudes understated luxury. Think warm ambient lighting with tribal-printed walls, contemporary chandeliers that frame the vaulted ceilings, and beige and wooden accessories that create a relaxed yet opulent atmosphere. Simply gorgeous!
Bastian and controversies
Launched in 2016, Bastian didn’t follow a simple breadcrumb trail, it leapt. And then in 2023, it changed the game by moving to a bigger, more upscale Bandra location, retaining all of the previous magic, and then adding some more. While maintaining its distinctive warmth, the change turned Bastian from a well-liked local treasure into a larger, more immersive experience.
This was however not without its set of controversies, and even now this news comes out amid allegations that the star and her husband, Raj Kundra, are involved in a fraud. For the uninitiated, recently, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra once again found themselves embroiled in a controversy. Businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Ltd. has alleged a fraud of a massive Rs 60 crores. While the actress hasn’t revealed the reason why Bastian will be closing doors, the partner at Bastian, Ranjit Bindra however, while talking to some news outlets, revealed that it is shutting down for some renovations, and that the much loved Mumbai restaurant will be back soon.
Bastian Juhu and Ammakai
Soon after the rumour mills started buzzing, Bastian Mumbai and Ranjeet Bindra shared a cheeky take on them. Calling it piping hot tea on Bastian, their post finally shared why Bastian Bandra will be closing its doors tomorrow. At the same venue, in Bandra, soon you can expect Ammakai instead. From mid October, the space will host you at the speciality South Indian restaurant, under the same hospitality group. What will happen to Bastian then, you ask? As Ranjeet captioned the post, “Bandra was where Bastian’s journey began, and it will always remain close to us. As we evolve, it feels right to honour the depth of South Indian cuisine through Ammakai, while also bringing the energy and indulgence of Bastian to Juhu in a fresh new way. We’re closing one chapter, but two new stories are waiting to be written, and we can’t wait to welcome you into them.” Well, we can't wait either!
