With the upcoming multi-billion-dollar deal that could transform the company forever—Netflix's move to acquire Warner Bros.—the entertainment industry is experiencing more unpredictability and strangeness than ever before. But there are still films to celebrate for the time being, and the coming year promises no shortage of new stories, adaptations, and remakes. Here are the best Hollywood movies of 2026!
Project Hail Mary
This time, best-selling author Andy Weir is bringing another high-stakes science fiction story to the big screen. In Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling plays the role of Ryland Grace, an astronaut who finds himself alone on a space station after waking up completely disoriented. Reconstructing his memories, he learns that he must travel to the Tau Ceti solar system to avert a cosmic catastrophe that has already plunged Earth into the beginnings of a new ice age. Screenplay writers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord helm the picture.
Wuthering Heights
An innovative manner of presenting the rising cruelty and suffering of the original material is called "the greatest love story of all time" in the trailer for Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Emily Brontë's classic novel. Margot Robbie plays 18-year-old Catherine Earnshaw in this adaptation of Wuthering Heights, while Jacob Elordi solidifies his Gothic credentials as the Byronic hero Heathcliff.
Send Help
Sam Raimi, whose credits include smash hits like Drag Me to Hell(2009), is set to direct the upcoming film Send Help. Two coworkers, played by Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien, are the only ones to survive an airplane accident and end up on a deserted island in this film. Despite their tense relationship, they will need to work together if they want to stay alive.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
In a Britain devastated by the Rage Virus, Spike (Alfie Williams) is initiated into a cult led by the psychopathic Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell). This is the exact same plot point as last year's zombie flick, 28 Years Later, which was a revival of the series that started in 2002 with Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later. The two features were shot simultaneously, with Nia DaCosta succeeding Danny Boyle as director.
The Devils Wear Prada 2
The original Devil Wears Prada writers, directors, and producers are back for a sequel twenty years later, and many of the original cast members, including Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Tibor Feldman, and Meryl Streep, are back as well. Uncertainty surrounds the premise, but it is likely to follow 2013's Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, the novel's sequel.
Spiderman Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Tom Holland return to his role as another renowned literary figure, barely two weeks after his appearance in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Destin Daniel Cretton of Shang-Chi, Erik Sommers, and Chris McKenna of No Way Home will direct Peter Parker's next adventure. Though Zendaya and Jacob Batalon's involvement is a mystery, Tom Holland's potential presence in Avengers: Doomsday earlier this year has sparked speculation.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Just this year, Suzanne Collins released the second of her two prequels to The Hunger Games. Same as with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the four original films, is once again involved with the adaptation. Set twenty-four years before the events of the original film, this one shows Haymitch Abernathy's involvement in the Second Quarter Quell. Additionally, Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland), Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci), and Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), portrayed here by Jesse Plemons, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence will also be returning, making it one of the most anticipated upcoming Hollywood movies!
The Odyssey
Oscar-winning Christopher Nolan's next project is a version of Homer's The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus during the Trojan War. Among the many A-listers included in the picture are Mia Goth, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and many more.
Mother Mary
Director David Lowery is taking on a new genre with Mother Mary: the psychological thriller. His previous work includes indie dramas like A Ghost Story and big-budget fantasy adventure films like Pete's Dragon and The Green Knight. In the film, Michaela Coel plays a fashion designer whose complicated psychosexual relationship with Anne Hathaway, a pop singer, is rekindled when Hathaway needs an outfit for her comeback tour.
Greenland 2: Migration
Lionsgate's highly anticipated sequel to the post-apocalyptic survival saga starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, is set to premiere on January 9, 2026. The events of the 2020 blockbuster Greenland continue in this sequel, which was written and directed by Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling. The original film chronicled the Garrity family's frantic escape from a comet that threatened Earth's existence. As the family escapes their Greenland bunker, we'll accompany them as they traverse a destroyed planet in quest of a new dwelling place in Migration.
