From ‘Liger’ To ‘Darlings’, 6 Hindi Movies You Must See In August 2022

Comedy, drama, mystery –ask for it and there is a movie on the genre releasing this month.

The Indian film universe is about to witness the addition of some stellar movies scheduled to release in theatres and streaming platforms this month. Some of the highlights include mom-to-be Alia Bhatt’s dark comedy-drama Darlings, which marks her debut as a producer, and the Aamir Khan and Naga Chaitanya-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha, which is a remake of the Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump and Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s Liger. In addition, there’s a comedy to make you ROFL, drama to stir your soul, and crime and mystery to stimulate fear.  

1. Darlings 

Starring Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma, Roshan Mathew, and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles, Darlings is a dark comedy that tells the story of a mother-daughter duo (played by Alia and Shefali) trying to find a footing in Mumbai and simultaneously seeking love in extraordinary situations. The film is written and directed by Jasmeet K Reen and is co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

2. Laal Singh Chaddha 

An official remake of the 1994 Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks, Laal Singh Chaddha features Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan from Bollywood in lead roles, and Telugu star Naga Chaitanya in a special role. The trailer of the movie has received mixed reviews on social media, and many netizens couldn’t help but draw parallels between characters that Aamir has played in the past including PK and 3 Idiots and his upcoming one in Laal Singh Chaddha.

3. Raksha Bandhan 

One of Bollywood’s most popular jodi, Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar are back with another small-town comedy-drama with a social message, right in time for the festival of Raksha Bandhan. In this film, Akshay plays the role of a small-time businessman and his relentless efforts of getting his four sisters married. Meanwhile, his love relationship with Bhumi struggles because he has pledged to tie the knot only once all his sisters are married.

4. Dobaaraa 

Actor Taapsee Pannu is on a roll! Her upcoming film Dobaaraa is a thriller directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Shobha and Ektaa Kapoor. It is a Hindi adaptation of the popular Spanish thriller Mirage, and the story revolves around the life of a young woman, who tries to save the life of a 12-year-old boy. But little does she know; this boy is indirectly involved in a murder that took place twenty years ago.

5. Liger 

Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday come together for an action drama based on mixed martial arts, which will be released in Telugu and Hindi languages. Vijay plays the role of a MMA fighter who from suffers speech impediment, and Ananya plays his love interest in the film. Liger marks the Bollywood debut of the legendary ex-professional boxer Mike Tyson, famously nicknamed ‘Iron Mike’ and ‘Kid Dynamite’. Co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film also stars Ramya Krishnan as the lead’s mother, and Ronit Roy.

6. Thai Massage 

Divyendu Sharma, Gajraj Rao, Sunny Hinduja, and Rajpal Yadav will be seen in director and writer Mangesh Hadawale’s Thai Massage. It is a comedy-drama that tells the story of a 70-year-old man who is facing erectile dysfunction. Thai Massage, touted as a family entertainer, is shot in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, and Thailand.
