If you are constantly treated to the social media obsession with Black Rabbit and Netflix's Adolescence, then welcome to the mini-series mania! Blade Runner 2099 and The Good Daughter are two of the most anticipated limited series of 2026, and EW is tracking their announcements. This year is still young. Miniseries are a great alternative to full seasons with over 20 episodes for viewers who are unable to devote so much time. So prepare to block your weekend for these unstoppable mini-series!
Adolescence
When it premieres in 2025, Adolescence will be one of the most talked-about TV shows ever. The four-part British crime drama follows the story of Jamie Miller, a thirteen-year-old suspected of killing a classmate. The entire series was shot in a single take. Both the technical aspects of the project and the way the show portrays the influence of modern media on adolescent boys' thoughts and behaviours are fascinating. Owen Cooper, in his Emmy-winning debut as Jamie, is a young actor to watch. The sequences in episode 3 between Jamie and his therapist, played by Erin Doherty, are among the most moving stories told recently. Adolescence delves deeply into the contemporary experience of adolescent boys and explores themes such as incels and loneliness epidemics, making the series feel more pertinent.
Untamed
The mystery-thriller Untamed on Netflix, co-written by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, takes viewers on a riveting journey through hidden truths and lingering pain. The gorgeously photographed series features special agent Kyle Turner (an outstanding Eric Bana), who works for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) in Yosemite National Park (but shot in British Columbia). Kyle rushes to the park to look into the discovery of a body. But as he investigates the case, his past hurts resurface, making him anxious and affecting his judgment. By depicting intricate human relationships and fearlessly highlighting our baser instincts, Untamed demonstrates that it is possible to craft a distinctive investigative drama in an oversaturated landscape.
Murdaugh: Death In The Family
The killings of the Murdaugh family have captivated true crime readers like few others in recent memory. Murdaugh: Death in the Family, a fictitious miniseries on Hulu, vividly depicts the avarice, brutality, and hubris that predate the murders of Maggie Murdaugh (Patricia Arquette) and Paul (Johnny Berchtold) on their family estate. Murdaugh: Death in the Family takes viewers on a journey through the years leading up to the 2021 deaths, shedding insight into the privileged Murdaugh family that is plagued by addiction, extreme coddling, and total dysfunction. The show centres around Arquette and Jason Clarke, who plays patriarch Alex Murdaugh, and expands on a community of individuals who are utterly absorbed in their mythology.
Baby Reindeer
Although this Netflix sensation has generated a lot of debate, no one can disagree that it is a fantastic miniseries. Using the short form and the tragi-comedy genre brilliantly, Richard Gadd's semi-autobiographical seven-part series follows a struggling comic (Gadd) as he struggles to escape the never-ending hunt for a mentally unstable stalker (Jessica Gunning), who infiltrates every part of his life. Baby Reindeer expertly juggles tone, purportedly real incidents, and dramatizations. Quite a commotion has ensued, including a lawsuit, yet the two elements together create a daring and addictive miniseries.
Griselda
Based on the life of Griselda Blanco, a notorious crime boss, Sofia Vergara plays the lead role in this Emmy-nominated limited series. Griselda depicts Blanco's transformation from a mother escaping Medellín to protect her children to a vicious drug lord known as the Godmother of Cocaine, starting in the late 1970s and continuing into the early 1980s. The portrayal of the central figure's rise in Griselda is devoid of glamour, which adds to the film's allure by highlighting the ease with which greed and power can corrupt individuals. The acting of Vergara holds the story together, but the performances of Blanco's husband Alberto Guerra and Blanco's hit guy Martín Rodríguez steal the show.
Black Rabbit
Black Rabbit is the result of combining the themes of The Bear and Uncut Gems. In this riveting drama on Netflix, we follow the lives of the Friedkin brothers, played by Jude Law and Vince, respectively, as they address the obstacles faced by their restaurant business, including debt, allegations of sexual harassment, and other illegal pursuits. Faced with the insanity engulfing their loved ones and colleagues, Jake and Vince must face their past while they seek a solution to rescue themselves and their eatery, The Black Rabbit. New York City foodies and scandal aficionados may see parallels to the events that led to the demise of The Spotted Pig, a popular gastropub in the West Village, in the eight episodes that make up the series. Even if this miniseries isn't exactly uplifting, it does allow Bateman to work with Laura Linney again; the two episodes of Black Rabbit that Linney directs are set to air.
The Undoing
In this new psychological mystery thriller, Big Little Lies' Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley rejoin for an HBO original miniseries. The Undoing, based on Jean Hanff Korelitz's novel You Should Have Known, chronicles the life of Grace Fraser, a wealthy New York therapist played by Nicole Kidman, whose world unravels when her husband, an oncologist named Jonathan, faces a savage murder conviction. As the investigation unfolds, Jonathan's family uncovers unexpected details about her seemingly idyllic life. The Undoing is an outstanding modern spin on a traditional whodunit, with shocking turns of events brought about by the narrative's heavy use of psychosexual and psychological aspects. Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman steal the show, but Donald Sutherland, Edgar Ramirez, and Noma Dumezweni also deliver solid supporting turns. Enthralling in its exploration of social privilege, deceit, and the precariousness of trust, The Undoing is a compelling mystery drama.
