She is a Santal tribeswoman who was born and raised in Mayurbhanj, Odisha.
Before joining politics, Droupadi Murmu was an educator. She was an assistant professor at Aurobindo Integral Education Center, Rairangpur, Odisha.
Prior to being nominated and now elected as the president of India, Droupadi Murmu was the Governor of Jharkhand. She was sworn in on May 18, 2015.
Born in 1958, she is the first president to be born after Independence making her the youngest president of India, at the age of 64.
Most notably, she was awarded the Nilkanth award in 2007 for best MLA by Odisha Legislative Assembly.
