Alia Bhatt desi/ethnic look in 'Darlings', which releases on Netflix today, has us impressed. She pulls off the plain Jane look in simple salwar kurtas so effortlessly that it could very well start off a new trend.
Veera Kapoor, the costume designer for 'Darlings', kept to the storyline to the T, making sure Alia always looked in-character. The printed kurtas, simple dupattas, the almost no-makeup look is spot on.
In fact, even for the promotions of the movie, Alia took up the style quotient a few notches, choosing gorgeous anarkalis, kurtas, along with a fair share of western outfits. She aced them all.
'Darlings' is not the only recent film Alia goes desi. In the Telugu film, 'RRR', where she plays the character of Sitha, she is a simple village girl in a simple saree throughout. Stunning nevertheless.
In 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', Sheetal Sharma, costume designer for the film, ensured that from the beginning till the end, Alia’s transformation, from an innocent girl to a diva, was equally matched with fashion.
Be it the basic ghagra-choli to the sharara to the stunning white sarees she's draped in the movie, Alia made fashion statements without even trying.
If you’ve stalked Alia’s Instagram, you’ll notice that she loves to dress it up, but ever so often, she’ll share a picture of her in ethnic clothes where she’s either in a lovely saree with almost no makeup or a gorgeous ghagra set.
While fashion might not be the reason behind Darlings success or the lack of it, Alia Bhatt proves that to be the character, you really have to look the character.
