Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common health concerns among women in India. Many Bollywood celebrities including Sara Ali Khan and Sonam Kapoor have spoken about their battle with it.

Nutritionist Simrun Chopra tells us that while PCOS can be prevented, we can surely reduce the severity of it with certain diet and lifestyle changes. Tap ahead to check the expert tips to manage PCOS.

1. Exercise

It is advised to exercise for at least 30 minutes, five to six times a week.

2. Avoid processed foods

Reduce the consumption of refined and packaged foods since they have unhealthy levels of fat, sodium, and sugar.

3. Avoid alcohol and smoking

Drinking alcohol and smoking may make things worse. If you do so when you suffer from PCOS then the habit may increase your risk for metabolic syndrome.

4. Diversity in diet

Include a variety of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in your daily diet to help your body get essential nutrients.

5. Eat protein

Include a natural source of protein in each meal that you eat. Meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, lentils, paneer, and yoghurt are a few source of proteins.

6. Essential nutrients

It is important to ensure your diet is rich in B6, B12, and folic acid.

7. Good fats

Ensure your dietary needs meet the Omega 3 fatty acid requirements. Walnuts, fish, flaxseeds, and chia seeds are a few good sources of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Important

Simrun mentions that these are only basic tips for managing PCOS and one must remember that none of these work in isolation. Also, always consult a professional to address your complications.
